Currently the Gannt, Timeline, and Workload Views default to only working with task and subtask due dates. If you could have the option to replace the due date field with other custom date fields, you'd be able to vastly expand the use cases of these views. Our projects and tasks across all spaces use various custom date fields that allow for more accurate tracking instead of simply "due date". However, if you actually use these custom date fields to build out your clickup infrastructure than most of Clickup's features cease to work properly, as they all function from the core due date field. Please allow us the option to have the gannt chart or timeline place our tasks by any custom date field rather than just the stock "due date field".

BACKGROUND The unscheduled tasks backlog appears in three planning surfaces: the Calendar view sidebar, the Timeline right bar, and the Workload sidebar. It is effectively the same panel, but today it behaves as a dumb flat list in all three. PAIN Planners with real backlogs cannot work out of it. There are no fields on the rows, no independent filtering, no sort, no grouping, and nothing is remembered between sessions. "It is overwhelming and unproductive to see every single unsorted task I have ever made in that list." WORKAROUND People leave the planner, go to a List view to find the task they want, then come back and scroll for it. Or they change the view filters, which also changes what they see on the calendar/grid itself. REQUEST Show fields on backlog rows, including Time Estimate. Sort by any field. Filter the backlog independently of the view's own filters. Richer filters, including hiding closed tasks in the backlog while keeping them on the grid. Save filter + sort combos as presets. Group with collapsible headers. Location picker up to Space level, not just List. Nest subtasks under their parent. Indicate tasks that are already scheduled. This is one panel used in three places, so it should behave the same in all three.

When we're trying to make views that are specific and useful for a particular group of users (in the example artists) we can't use our project, which is a big template created in chronological order of the tasks that need to be completed to, display subtasks when they are displayed as "expanded". The only way to make them appear is to display subtasks as separate tasks, but that completely breaks our project view and makes it much less interesting for the project manager and the users. In the images below you can see our set up with two of the tasks displaying all of their subtasks in the "expanded" display mode. Then you can see what happens when I apply a filter, they all disappear. In the third image you can see the same view with the Subtasks displayed as separate tasks, but it's less useful as you no longer see the hierarchy of the tasks.

Ideally it would be very helpful & more productive to have the ability to see 'Description' for any item in the 'List View'. Technically this can be done by adding a 'new long text' field as well, however that would mean we are duplicating the text/content, as the Description for the task/item is already written in the Description Column. So please, consider the feature of displayed 'Description' field info in a Column under list-view.

I would like to be able to view the documents in a table view, just like in Notion. In this way, we could relocate databases with their respective documents. It could be an easier way to organize documents in different databases (instead of folders) as well as insert/mention them in pages or tasks. I'm importing my Notion documents into Clickup pages, but I'm having great difficulty keeping them organized there. In Notion my documents are organized and sorted by database resources. Would it be possible to work on it? Congratulations for the work guys! Loving Clickup!

It would be super helpful for our team if we could sort all tasks across all projects by "status" and have them appear in the order our of our status-flow. It's currently possible to sort by status in list view, but instead of sorting in order of your status pipeline (as they would be in board view, or everywhere else), the list is confusingly sorted alphabetically by names of statuses. This means that if your workflow order is INFO > BACKLOG > SPRING PLANNING > CURRENT SPRINT > QR sorting them by status in list view will display them out of order, like this: BACKLOG > CURRENT SPRINT > INFO > QR > SPRINT PLANNING

Ask: Add the Timeline custom field type to the Gantt view sidebar column picker. The Timeline custom field is not currently available as a sidebar column in Gantt view, even though most other custom field types can be added. I'd like Timeline to be a supported column in the Gantt sidebar. Why it matters: Timeline provides a single, clean date-range field instead of requiring two separate columns (start date and due date). For project managers working in Gantt view, being able to see a compact date range inline is much easier to scan than two individual date columns. It reduces clutter in the sidebar and keeps the focus on the chart itself.

I am going to copy and paste my question and the response from Brain: My Question: why is it that when I just changed all my sub-tasks to task its shifted them in the order it is shown in the Gantt chart the list that I had them in 10 minutes ago is the one I want them to always be in is there a way to do this? BRAIN Yeah, that's frustrating but expected unfortunately. When you convert subtasks to tasks, they lose their position in the parent's hierarchy and get dropped into the list as new top-level items, which resets their sort position. There's no "lock order" toggle in ClickUp that prevents this. What to do now: Go into your Gantt sidebar and drag the tasks back into the order you want. Once you've manually sorted them, that order sticks, and the sort will also sync with your List view as long as both views are manually sorted and subtasks are set to "Expand all." Going forward: if you're restructuring hierarchy (converting subtasks to tasks or vice versa), expect that the sidebar order will shift. The safest approach is to do those conversions and then immediately re-drag things into place. It's manual, but once set it holds. If this keeps being a pain point, I'd honestly suggest submitting a feature request through the ClickUp Help Center for a "preserve order on conversion" option, because you're right that it shouldn't shuffle without your say-so. Comments: This has been a pain when trying to input changes to plans and programmes and needing to change the nesting of tasks and sub-tasks. If they held their position and also was able to insert tasks between other tasks I think this would be very useful in my tracking and adjustments.

I use Gantt view to project manage using ADDIE methodology (Analyse, Design Develop, Implement and Evaluate. So this gives me 5 over arching Tasks (stages). Under Analyse may be 7 different subtasks each having several additional subtasks. Think 1 > 1.7 >1.7.3 It makes sense to build the project plan directly into ClickUp as opposed to finalising the whole design before building in ClickUp, projects are always fluid. But there is high frustration with it not easily being able to re-order subtasks within a task once built. Lets Say under "Develop" I have 10 Subtasks, then realise that I need to change the order of subtasks 5,6&7. In Gantt view when I pick it up to move it instead of sub task 5 going to subtask 7 and them reordering it actually put subtask 5 as a subtask of subtask 7. - i.e. 2 > 2.5 was meant to become 2 > 2.7 instead it ended up 2 > 2.7.1 The only work around is to open up the parent task and then re-arrange sub tasks within the task "card" then go back to Gantt view. Visually you then have to remember what you wanted to do as you no longer have full Gantt view. It is just a bit clunky.
