Hello everyone,
As I mentioned earlier, we are in the process of building this feature and I would love to get this group's thoughts on a few things.
Please help shape the feature using this survey:
(It should take 1 to 2 mins)
Looking forward to hearing from you.

Bugra Oktay Survey Done!

Bugra Oktay to add a little more explanation to my feedback. First step is to get the timeline baseline. If adding additional features will delay this (e.g. baselining budget/costs held in custom fields), I would prefer to first get the timeline baseline and then layer in additional baseline capability at a later date.

Happy to report that we are working on baselines. I will keep this thread informed about updates and dates.

Bugra Oktay Will it work only in Gantt view? Would be great to consider "version control" for tasks in lists/folders/spaces. Thanks!

Daniel Urbano - we are considering a few options. Would be great to hear more about your use cases to inform the capabilities.

Gannt chart tracking projected vs actual time
JH Spaces
I'm trying out Clickup to see if can fit our needs for construction management. We use ProCore for our larger projects but need something for smaller projects. The Gantt chart is helpful but what I could really use is a way to track projected time (baseline) vs actual time. Also, is there a way to trackk actual in days and weeks? I only see it in (billable) hours and that is not how I need to track time.

Is There a Baseline Feature in ClickUp Gantt View?
M
Muhammad Nauval Rizki
I’m managing multiple projects and I’d like to know if ClickUp provides a baseline feature in the Gantt view — specifically, the ability to save original (planned) start and due dates, and then compare them visually with actual task dates to track schedule deviations.
If this feature isn’t available yet, is it on the product roadmap? And do you recommend any official workarounds?
Thank you in advance for your help.

Baseline feature in Gantt views for best overview planning after and before
JMartinez
For project managers, it would be fantastic to have a tool in the Gantt view that allows us to see the "before" and "after" of project planning.
We all know that projects are dynamic elements that begin with an initial plan but may experience delays and deviations over time.
Projects in ClickUp include the critical path and slack, which are fantastic tools. However, from my perspective, there is a missing feature: a tool that lets us see the project's "before," meaning the initial schedule, and its "after," meaning the final schedule, to assess whether the project has deviated from the original plan.
Other tools, such as Monday.com, include this feature called Baseline, which displays two overlapping Gantt charts: one with the initial estimation and another showing the current reality.
What is a "Baseline" in Project Management?
A baseline is a project management tool used to outline the target schedule of a project. It serves as a reference framework for comparing the current progress (after any delays or changes) with the originally planned schedule. In other words, it’s an excellent way to visually understand the project’s overall progression over time. A baseline is best added at the start of a project so that it can serve as a reference point throughout the project’s lifecycle.
The baseline is a fixed reference point that defines the approved scope, schedule, and budget of a project at a specific moment in time. It serves as a benchmark for measuring the project’s progress and performance throughout its lifecycle. It is critical in project management as it helps identify deviations from the original plan and allows for corrective actions if necessary.
Baseline Components
Scope Baseline: Defines the project's deliverables, including approved goals, objectives, and requirements. It is typically documented in the Scope Statement and Work Breakdown Structure (WBS).
Schedule Baseline: This is the approved project schedule, including all activities, durations, dependencies, and key dates. It represents the initial plan for meeting project deadlines.
Budget Baseline: This is the approved cost estimate for the project, encompassing all resources needed to complete the activities within the established scope and schedule.
Importance of the Baseline
Monitoring and Control: Enables comparison of actual project performance with the plan, identifying deviations in scope, time, and cost.
Change Management: Facilitates impact analysis when project changes are requested, ensuring decisions are based on clear data.
Performance Evaluation: Used to calculate key indicators, such as Earned Value Management (EVM), which evaluates project progress in terms of cost and schedule.
Reviewing and Adjusting the Baseline
A baseline can be formally updated if significant changes to scope, schedule, or budget are approved. This is done through change management processes, ensuring all stakeholders are aligned with the adjustments made.
In summary, the baseline is the starting point and key reference for project management, ensuring that work is performed according to plan and that any deviations are effectively managed.

Add a baseline to track time related to tasks and include this baseline into dashboards and reports.

Just a piece of advice: your development team is clearly overwhelmed. It happens to all of us in software development at some point. You're doing many things at once, many of them very well, but some parts of the product have serious shortcomings. Managing minimally complex projects is one of them. Buy other companies and integrate them—buy Smartsheet and integrate it. It doesn't even need to have the same look & feel or the same task-based concept; you'll have time to refine that later. But don't leave users with this frustration. Go for private equity if you need to raise funds—many of us would be more than happy to invest in a company we love.
