ClickUp already has a solid Whiteboard feature — but it's missing a major opportunity: AI-driven diagram generation. The use case is simple: I type a prompt describing what I need (a flowchart, a process map, a system architecture, an org chart…), and the AI builds the entire diagram for me — nodes, connections, layout — from A to Z. This already exists in the market. Excalidraw, for example, offers an MCP (Model Context Protocol) connector that integrates with Claude AI. You describe what you want in natural language, and it generates the full visual mapping directly on the canvas. It's fast, accurate, and a massive time saver. Imagine being able to do this natively inside ClickUp Whiteboards: "Map out a client onboarding workflow with 6 stages" "Create a decision tree for lead qualification" "Build a system architecture diagram for a CRM integration" …and getting a complete, editable diagram in seconds — right where the rest of your project lives. ClickUp is already investing heavily in AI. Adding AI generation to Whiteboards would be a natural and high-impact extension of that strategy. Would love to see this on the roadmap.

The previous version of whiteboards allowed for text that could be different sizes in the same text box as well as bold and other formatting options. This being removed from whiteboard 3.0 has made it less readable

It would be great if we could zoom freely on whiteboards rather than in steps. Right now, Zooming is done in increments - and the increments also vary in strength - making it hard to get the exact zoom level you want. It's hard to get the contents to fit correctly for your screen size, where all elements are clearly visible and text legible. It would work a lot better if it would zoom smoothly instead of in jumps. So we could literally set any zoom percentage level. Maybe this would work best for Ctrl+mouse wheel users, and the zoom buttons can stay in increments. (They should be standardised - say every 5% zoom - as, right now, it can be any random increment). I would also suggest we could freely change the zoom number by clicking the number and changing it with a keyboard input.

I regularly use ClickUp’s Whiteboard feature, and I would like to request the implementation of a "version history and restore function." Here are some situations where I feel this functionality is especially necessary: When multiple team members are editing simultaneously, important elements may accidentally be deleted. Without version history, it is impossible to restore the previous state, which causes significant disruption. As projects progress and Whiteboards are continuously updated, there are times when I want to revert to a previous idea or layout. However, since there is no history tracking, this is currently very difficult. To solve these issues, it would be extremely helpful if Whiteboards had the ability to “view changes and restore to a previous version when needed.” A system similar to Google Docs’ version history would give me confidence in collaboration and greatly improve overall team productivity. ClickUp is an outstanding service that has significantly boosted my efficiency and productivity. I deeply appreciate the continuous hard work of the development team, and I would be very grateful if you could consider implementing this improvement.

I tried multiple exports, various types - all bad

I want to leverage the power of Brain and BrainMax for whiteboards and visual-spatial work, but it's too much work to manually convert items from just one small doc into sticky notes one at a time! Please allow a "paste as stickies" or similar bulk paste option (like Miro or Lucid).

Hello ClickUp Team, I recently received a feedback form for Whiteboards that included an option to schedule a meeting to share my thoughts. Unfortunately, I accidentally closed the tab before submitting the form, and I couldn’t find a way to access it again. I wanted to reach out because I genuinely value the opportunity to share feedback. I’m a daily FigJam user and actively exploring moving my brainstorming and visual workflow fully into ClickUp Whiteboards, but there are a few key issues currently blocking that transition. I’d be very happy to discuss these in more detail over a call if possible. Below is the feedback I was hoping to share: iPad Support Is a Major Gap My most common use case for FigJam and Miro is brainstorming, and that rarely happens on a laptop for me. It happens on an iPad, where drawing, sketching, and freehand thinking feel natural and creative. At the moment, Whiteboards don’t work properly on iPad, which makes them unusable for this purpose. For visual thinkers and designers, iPad support isn’t a “nice to have” — it’s essential. No Export Functionality I’m unable to export diagrams created in Whiteboards. This is a significant limitation because exporting is crucial for: Sharing with stakeholders Adding diagrams to presentations or documents Reusing or archiving ideas Without export options, the work feels locked in and hard to use beyond ClickUp. Arrow Positioning and Readability Issues Arrows currently connect from the center of shapes instead of the edges. This leads to: Visual clutter Arrow lines cutting through text inside shapes Allowing arrows to snap to shape edges would greatly improve diagram clarity and overall usability. Limited Text Hierarchy and Customization There’s no effective way to manage text hierarchy. I can’t: Define text sizes (e.g., small, medium, large) Customize font sizes freely This makes it difficult to structure information clearly, especially in larger or more complex boards. I’m sharing this feedback because I want to move my workflow from FigJam to ClickUp and use Whiteboards as my primary brainstorming tool. With improvements in these areas, I believe Whiteboards could become a very strong alternative. I LOVE ClickUp, I have been a user since 2018 and it kills me how unusable this system is at scale for us. We care about speed, precision, personalization and scalability. Building Whiteboards from scratch will never work for us. Using a template still means we will have to do a lot of unnecessary clicking. Many apps have Mermaid support (See draw.io for one of the better representations where you can edit it after you make the initial diagram). I would love to see you guys give us the ability to paste Mermaid in as an input and it creates the diagram with the correct shapes in ClickUp and then we can move them around as we need. SOPs should be visual! I'd have your AI read the text from an SOP and then create a Mermaid representation of it. I can't afford the AI for my whole team, so I pray you support Mermaid so I can copy and paste please 🙏🏽 Having a ClickUp Whiteboard embedded in the middle of SOPs to show flow of events would turn a lot of heads. Especially because you can link to tasks and Docs in the Board as well. I was excited I saw something about JSON exports previously. The feature didn't work as expected, but I figured you guys were working out the details on that. I was stoked. Then at least I can have a large language model like ChatGPT or Claude understand your JSON format. Then I can have it make tweaks to the file, import the file back in, and paste it there, and be able to rapidly visually reflect what I want. But this is just too slow and clunky. I will import Boardmix, Miro or even Draw.io inside of ClickUp all day long because it's just so hard to have any type of streamlined workflow. It just takes too long to produce things on here if you always have to click and drag everything. No one's going to want to do that who has to do it at scale.
