Support for GPS coordinates in location fields (that put tasks on the Map view correctly)
Product area: Tasks → Location field / Map View Summary Add native support for GPS coordinates (latitude / longitude in decimal format) in ClickUp Location fields so tasks can be placed accurately on the map view without being converted to a nearby street address. Currently, ClickUp only resolves coordinates to the closest address. Problem Statement Today, when entering coordinates into a Location field, ClickUp automatically reverse-geocodes them to the nearest known address. This can result in: • Incorrect task placements • Pins mapped at buildings/addresses that do not reflect the real-world location • Inaccurate visualization for sites with no meaningful street address This behavior is not acceptable for workflows where exact physical location matters. Use Case We manage tasks tied to precise physical infrastructure or field locations where: • The exact GPS location matters (beyond just an address) • Tasks may reference locations without legitimate street addresses • Map visualization must match real-world coordinates instead of approximated address points Examples include: • Field engineering installations • Infrastructure endpoints (e.g., network nodes, access points) • Remote or outdoor project sites Requested Capability Support explicit GPS coordinate entry and storage, including: 1. Accept decimal latitude and longitude directly (e.g., 32.7157, -117.1611) 2. Display tasks on Map View using the actual coordinate pair 3. Do not override or convert coordinates to the nearest street address 4. Optional enhancements: • Coordinate-only mode in Location field • Manual pin placement on map • Retain both address and coordinate fields if provided Expected Behavior When a user enters GPS coordinates: • The location should appear on the map exactly at those coordinates • No automatic snapping to a nearby street address • Map view should reflect that exact position accurately Business Impact Without this enhancement: • Teams must use external GIS tools or workarounds • Map View is not reliable for operations or field planning • Data fidelity and spatial accuracy suffer With GPS coordinate support: • Map-based planning becomes significantly more reliable and useful • ClickUp becomes usable for projects related to field operations and infrastructure management • Reduces manual GIS data crunching outside of ClickUp Industry Context Many mapping and scheduling tools allow direct geographic coordinate placement as a standard feature enabling precise task-to-location mapping.
