Feature Requests

We have moved from subtask heirarchy for most task types to using relationships, so we are not held to subtask limits and have a better categorization of those links/associations. There is two big problems we've been running into with the Related section: 1) Can't select tasks - this is a massive one as we can simply select a task to change a field or conduct any action, and even more of a problem when you need to bulk update multiple tasks. Selection checkbox is a key feature and should be here especially when i've had ClickUp tell me best practice for use cases was to use relationships. 2) Add Columns needs more options - relationships for example, don't seem to be enabled anymore, and they were before but didn't work (I recall enabling a relationship field column and not seeing any results populating when clicking in to it). Regardless, having all columns available to add, as well as ensuring that relationship fields can populate correctly the list of options is a big help (especially when paired with bulk editing). When you start using relationships, you find yourself constantly linking tasks, so having those relationships accessible is key. 3) Sorting - currently you cannot sort or group tasks within the related tab. Again, if relationships are a key part of the platform flow, then there should be at the very least a way to sort the list. 4) Navigation Issue - we get constant issues within our team of users clicking on a task within the Related tab, then not knowing how to go back and clicking "x" thinking that the previous task that was associated to it was still open. For example. If im on a User story task, i may have build tasks associated with it through a relationship, and on the related tab I want to update a few of them. I click on the first, make an update, click x, and now have to hunt down the previous one (especially if its not saved to the tray). I have gotten in the habit of opening tasks up in new tabs, however then you have a ton of tab switching. Not sure if a better approach would be to not close out the task to begin with. If im on a user story, and i click on a related task, have the new one open up on top, once i close that, the previous task is still open, and i can close that once im done. I think that could enhance the user experience greatly and mitigate a lot of confusion on finding where you were and constantly going back and forth - just leave the task open until x is clicked.

In ClickUp 3.0, I was able to show/hide custom fields in the Relationships feature. This allowed me to quickly view specific custom field values through the Relationships feature, without needing to open the task. Now, in ClickUp 4.0, this feature has disappeared. I can only show/hide the task’s native fields, such as status, creation date, due date, priority, assignee, task type, and a few others. All custom fields created by the user in the respective list no longer appear in the Relationships feature. It would be excellent to be able to show/hide custom fields in Relationships again.

We are utilizing custom field relationships to associate all work across spaces and teams with our clients. Example: Client A has 3 projects in Implementation, 7 issues in Support, and 3 items in Engineering/Development that are all visible in Client A's record(task). We currently have 72 relationship custom fields, and the number keeps growing. We are running into some issues navigating these and have concerns with maintaining these relationships. We would like to request the following items be considered: The use of the same relationship field across lists. We would like to build a single client relationship field that can be added to multiple spaces and lists to connect items back to the client's record instead of having to create unique relationship fields for each list. This would reduce the number of duplicate 'client' fields. Currently, task cards display all relationships at a glance. When you click on one relationship type, it opens the Related tab. It would be better if when you clicked on the relationship, it not only opened the related tab, but also went directly to the corresponding section in the related tab. For example, if I click on the 25 Client Contacts link under Relationships, it would open to the Client Contacts section on the Related Tab regardless of its relationship order. This would help us tremendously as it eliminates our need to scroll through a large amount of empty sections in the Related Tab to locate the existing relationship. Better yet, if we could have the ability to filter the Related Tab in tasks down to only those sections where a relationship exists, we could more easily navigate our relationships.

[From Blue Whale] I would like to be able to add relationships in bulk, especially by adding a folder or list. This would particularly be useful for dependencies.

Relationships nowadays just allow to select tasks previously created. It would be nice if we coud add a new task directly on related list through Relationships.

ClickUp sorts the relationships automatically, but sometimes we prefer a specific relationship at the top. For example, I have the following different lists: Products Documents Manuals Certificates Promos All related to "Products" list. And when I'm in the "Products" list, and I open a task (that is a product), in relationships section, I can see which related documents I have to that product, which manuals, certificates, promos... But related "Documents" is the main relationship for me, the first one I look for. But at this moment, this "Documents" relationship, is on the bottom of all relationships of "Products" list. It would be nice if we could reorder/sort the relationships, so we can quickly find what we're looking for.

It would be more convenient and quicker for users if you created a Relationship field. Then, you could immediately display the necessary rollup fields and show them all at once, rather than hiding them inside the Relationship column, which is not visually appealing. I have to manually create them every time, which is a lengthy process that could be avoided.

Here's a sample use case: I want to create a list of projects and group them by Client. The Client is a relationship to a task in a list called Clients. For some reason, I do have the ability to group by some of the linked items, like assignee (in this case I called it "Client Owner").

Add Relationship > Link Task > Create New Linked Task
