Reminders for Tasks
in progress
Basil Weibel
One of the key advantages of clickup was to "containerize" communication in tasks. So insteado fo having 1000s of group chats, that mix different projects, you have everything around one task centered on the task page.
I often used assigned comments, to remind people of things they should do on a task. Now with reminders/inbox, I have a much better tool for that.
However, with the introduction of reminders, this logic of putting everything in a task that is related to this task is broken!
In my opinion, it would be important to have the option to associate reminders in a similar style as checklist items or assigned comments with tasks. I think as manager you often go through tasks and want to remind people of something. Reminders are better than assigned comments, because they have a due date. But they should show the associated task (if there is one).
A slash command /r in the task chat to create a reminder would be great (that then is automatically associated with the task). Alternatively, an option to convert assigned comments to reminders.

The new "Remind Me" feature in tasks is a good start but it is far lacking! When you create it, there should be a "save" or some kind of button to indicate that you've created the notification. (Instead you just click out of the calendar and it's confusing at first to know if you created one!) It would also be great if a Reminder field is added to the task so you can see any reminders for that task. In fact, there should be a Reminder section somewhere that is EASY to find! Also....it's really unhelpful the way it shows up. You would think it would show up in a reminder list as the name of the task but it shows up as "app.clickup.com" with a link to the task. VERY UNHELPFUL to see it that way. Also WHY can we not get reminders in other notification formats???
Brendan W
Sarah Ross We're going to be adding a create/save button soon!
Where are you seeing the name of the Reminder you created from a task show up as "app.clickup.com"? On your Home page? Web or mobile? etc.
Sarah Ross
Brendan W great!! And I see that in the mobile. It does look right (the title of the task) on web. Hope this helps!
Sarah Ross
Brendan W also, this is what I mean by other notification formats — can we get reminders to our Inbox?
Sarah Ross
Brendan W one final thing:) I noticed there is a “notify” option on Reminders (non-task ones) to set reminder timing (due date, 10 min before, etc.) but it’s not on the task-reminder at creation. Could it be added there? I noticed it IS an option if I look at it in My Work, but I’d love to do it all at once rather than having to go to My Work to adjust that. Thanks!

Also, adding the reminders to automation will very helpful.

Feedback on the 'reminders on tasks' implemented in release 3.16:
The new system 'reminders on tasks' uses the existing reminders feature and links it to the task. On the other hand I would prefer it to be like a notification that has the following features:
- Can be set relative to the task start / due date [on due date, X hours/days/weeks/months before due date]
- Should recur along with task
- We should be able to set multiple notifications on a task [eg. 1 month before and 1 day before]
- We should be able to check the notifications currently enabled on a particular task from the task as suggested by Rob Leslie.
As I understand from the previous comments, work on this notification feature is already in progress and I am waiting for it.

Ronak Dhakan - I came here to give the same feedback. The only thing I would add is the ability to assign the reminder to multiple people, for example all task assignees
Brendan W
Jose Hernandez Hey! In what cases are you trying to delegate the Reminder to multiple people? I'd love to know why you're not creating a task and assigning it to multiple people (or assigning multiple tasks to individuals) instead?
Brendan W
Ronak Dhakan Thanks for the feedback! And yes, we're working on reminder notifications soon too :)
* You can achieve this today using the "Due Date Reminder" notifications, and set how long before the Due Date you want to be notified. This can be configured to send notifications for Inbox, email, mobile push, or browser/desktop push.
* Right now its a standalone reminder but great idea!
* Makes sense!
* Something we want to add in the future too!

Brendan W Yes, I am aware of the 'Due Date Reminder' notification feature. But currently it can only be set across the workspace. I would highly prefer it to be able to set it per task as I do not need a reminder for most of my tasks and when I need it, I need it to be customizable per task.

Brendan W - Hi Brendan, my use case is for tasks assigned to multiple people. I want the assignees to be reminded a few days prior to the due date that they have task coming due(without having to create multiple reminders). As of now they would only be notified when the task is passed due, which is not very helpful. Thanks
Rob Leslie
I'd like for reminders tied to a task to be visible when looking at the task. Once I create the reminder, I can't tell if I already have a reminder for the task without leaving the task.
Brendan W
Rob Leslie Yes Rob, me too! Right now you're correct that it is just creating a standalone Reminder, but we do want to unlock what you're describing in the future.
i.e. a relationship between the Reminder and the task

Could reminders also show up on any calendar you may have integrated with you workspace?
We use Google Calendar and we have it integrated with ClickUp. If I could see the reminders I have created within ClickUp, either for myself or others, on my Google Calendar, I would be very happy.

It would be great if this reminder could trigger notification in Slack, for instance I have a document/Contract that expires certain date. I want to receive a notification for that at certain point - 7 days before or 30 days.
Sarah Ross
Are you going to be adding Inbox notifications to Reminders any time soon?
What would be really helpful is if we could tie Reminders to Due Dates within the task. For example, I have a task that is due June 5, and I would like to be notified
by inbox
two months out, one month out, two weeks out, etc. BUT I don't want to use the Start Date feature becuase I don't need this showing up continuously on my calendar from April 5 to June 5. (So not only could I set a recurrance on a task from the due date, but I could set a reminder from the due date, too.)Brendan W
Sarah Ross You can already do this. If you go into your notification settings, you can enable "due date reminder", as well as pick how long before the due date you will be notified.
Brendan W
Does the existing functionality not work for you since it would notify you for all tasks x days/months before the Due Date, and you want it on specific tasks?
Sarah Ross
Brendan W yes that’s what I meant. I noticed the new “reminder” feature on tasks, but it still could use some improvement. (I posted a comment about this about 6 hours ago but basically, my problems with it are 1) there’s no “save” button so unless you just know to click out of the calendar & that it’s done, it’s a bit confusing. 2) the reminders show up as app.clickup link when I view them, so it’s not helpful when it pops up — it would be much better if the reminder took on the name of the actual task.
Michele Bonometti
good job, but It would be better if I could see the name of the task, instead of link
thx
Brendan W
Michele Bonometti This is now completed, check out the My Work card on Reminders card on Home :)

Brendan W I just wanted to make a comment on how my use of reminders has changed in the last month. Historically I used reminders like a ToDo list of personal tasks, but with the introduction of the personal list on mobile I have changed my workflow for the better (great work Team Joey). I now use the personal list as my to-dos. Reading through the comments I don't know if you're planning to keep reminders as a unique object, or if they will become an attribute of a task, or a just timed notification? Honestly I'm fine with any, but if they're an object I would like to see them in my personal list.
Thanks for all the improvements lately!
Brendan W
Colin Miller Thanks for explaining your workflow! Right now Reminders are still their own entities, for those who want to use them for the mini to-do list use case. For those that want them to function like system reminders, that's why we want to introduce notifications for reminders and make them a first-class citizen in Inbox.
Sarah Ross
Brendan W except you only have certain notification types. Can you please expand that??
Brendan W
Sarah Ross I'm not sure what you mean/asking Sarah Ross?
