I'd like to make Milestone-ness part of a task template. If I create or update a template from a task that is a milestone, then I'd like the template to include that so any task I create from it (or apply it to) becomes a milestone. This would be really useful.

It would also be great if automations could turn a task into a milestone.

I'm looking for a way to show the Milestone diamonds for each folder in a Space without needing to expand the Folder. In other words, I want to be able to get a sense of when Milestones are due across all Folders in a space without needing to expand the folders. Having the ability to see just the Milestones across all folders is vital to enable quick, efficient visualization and communication of roadmaps and initiatives.

there should be an option for milestones to inherit the start date of the first "subtask" and the due date of the last subtask. There's no point in doing this manually, a simple Excel formula would do this on Excel format

I'd love to be able to only show subtasks that are milestones rather than all subtasks in Timeline view. Thanks!

It'd be great to have an option to set a milestone as a non-task, but more like a calendar/date marker. E.g. "8 weeks till product launch". That way outstanding milestones don't count towards tasks in project progress.

Would like to see Milestones distinguished from Tasks, so there is a separate API section for Get/Update Milestones, and they are not co-mingled in the Get Tasks data.  At a minimum, add a flag to the task data returned via API to indicate this is a Milestone, and allow me to 'Filter Out' Milestones on the Get Tasks call, so it returns only tasks, not tasks & milestones with no way to distinguish which is which.
My guess at a workaround currently is to create a custom field IsMilestone on tasks, automate to set to true when a task is designated as a Milestone (newbie here - assume this is possible?), and then query API Get Tasks for custom_field:IsMilestone NOT true.
We are creating our own interface for logging time and need to retrieve tasks, excluding milestones.

Hi Em Goss, I've got a few requests to take milestones from "tasks with a different icon" to actually useful:

Add ability to Filter on a particular milestone. https://clickup.canny.io/feature-requests/p/filter-by-milestone-group-by-milestone-and-sort-by-milestone i.e. Filter > Milestone > "Milestone [is/is not] [choose milestone]". Where [choose milestone] is a dropdown of all milestones in that [list/folder/space]. Not to be confused with the current milestone filter, which only lets you select if a task is/isn't a milestone. This functionality can also be achieved by filtering on dependency (if you're setting tasks as blocking/waiting on milestones, that is), which also doesn't exist yet but I've requested here: https://clickup.canny.io/feature-requests/p/add-filtering-functionality-for-dependencies-task-is-or-is-not-waiting-on-or-blo.

Add dedicated Milestone column in list view that displays the name of the milestone a task belongs to. This is currently achievable with a Tasks-type custom field, but it'd be nice to have dedicated functionality for this. Doing it as a custom field means another step to add milestones as that custom field. Also, the Tasks custom field has a bug: https://clickup.canny.io/bugs/p/task-custom-fields-not-appearing-as-filter-or-group-by-option. If this was dedicated functionality, all tasks belonging to a milestone would automatically have this field populated. How should tasks 'belong to' a milestone? See number 5:
Dedicated milestone task linking functionality. I'm not sure how to implement this, but have a think about it. I'd like a list in a milestone task of all tasks belonging to that milestone. We're currently adding tasks as blockers to a milestone. Is that optimal? It doesn't feel like it. It feels like this should be a function unique to milestones. Maybe this isn't needed if filter/sort/group by milestones is implemented, because then standard dependency linking can be used.
Task validation: when changing the Milestone's status to a Done or Complete-type status, ask if any tasks belonging to that milestone that are not currently on that status should be also changed to that status. (i.e. the task is either a blocker or it's linked as belonging to the milestone as I described in 5, above)
Include Milestones as an automation trigger, condition or action. Already added based on my feedback, here: https://clickup.canny.io/feature-requests/p/milestones-in-automations.
In task view, with the linked/blocking/dependent tasks, differentiate between a task and a milestone by adding the task or milestone icon. This has the bonus effect of showing the actual status of an individual task (separately requested already here https://clickup.canny.io/feature-requests/p/show-status-preview-of-linkeddependentblocking-tasks [update - feature complete!]).

Yes, some of these were suggested by others already. I'm just listing the functionality I need.

I've also added these to https://clickup.canny.io/feature-requests/p/sprints-releases-milestones as well, as that seems to be In Progress.

I would like to see the milestones in the middle of the day in the Gantt chart view, rather than at the end as it currently is, in order to avoid any confusion about when the milestone is actually happening/due. Thank you !
