Change due and start dates at the same time

Basically, rescheduling things takes way more clicks than it should!
A quick way to reschedule tasks is needed - i.e. to quickly change a start and due date at the same time. I may have set a start and due date and then want to move that task +/- X Days if plans change.
This would be easy to do via the calendar if you were able to see across weeks in week view or across months in month view but you can't, you can only see one week or month at a time.
For the most part I have tasks with a start and end time on the same day, for example starting at 10:00 and finishing at 14:00 on a given day. To move a task to next monday and retain the times I currently I have to edit the due date, then the start date - each taking two or three clicks each in different places, that's 4-6 clicks just to move something to next week if I'm on my weekly calendar view which would be a common scenario for me. Furthermore the times are not retained and have to then be entered again! I mean, this is a lot of work just to reschedule a task....

I imagine toggles would help with this as native automations, embedded directly into the date picker. Made some mockup examples with hovering tooltips for the following toggles:
- Days & times linked independently
- Days & times linked together (Recurrence Sync)
Toggling on and rescheduling the initial task updates the duration of days and/or times for future recurrences.
Toggling off lets you reschedule the initial task's duration and/or time slots independent of future recurrences, as it currently functions now.

My above comment is now it's own feature request https://clickup.canny.io/feature-requests/p/rescheduling-dates-automatically-using-recurrence-toggles-in-the-date-picker

This seems tightly related with this other feature request which is already planned:
Maybe it should be merged?

Alberto Alonso: Sort of seems similar, although the main focus of my request is to make rescheduling tasks easier, not to automtically calculate their length. So let's say we have a task which we enter the start date for and how long it should last (as per your linked request). We still face the problem of rescheduling that task without having to edit two dates and times manually. This request is about being able to quickly reschedule something, or locking down that duration that is mentioned in the request you linked. The way I see it it's related, but not the same.

Ralph Stokes: Depends on the implementation. If when defining the task you define the start date and duration (instead of end date directly), I suppose that any time that you change the start date the end date got updated automatically, so only 1 clic will be required.

Alberto Alonso: Yeah totally. That would do me! But like you say, it all depends on the implementation. Given clickup's track record of finding the simplest way to implement requests (rather than the most comprehensive), I think it's important to keep this request so that the outcome I'm looking for is met! Otherwise they'll implement the automatic update somehow but it'll still be a pain to update!

Ralph Stokes: Let's hope for the best! I really think that with some small tweaks they can get something that works well for this.

Hey Ralph sounds like you are looking for a way to lock down the duration. If you have a task thats due 3 days after the start then that could be locked down and when you adjust either start or due the other end adjusts along with it keeping the duration.

Ivan Villa: How do i set a duration?
R
Ralph Stokes
Ivan Villa: this sounds like it would possibly work. How do I “lock down” a tasks duration?I think I probably want this to be the default behaviour! Nearly all my tasks start and end on the same day as duration is in hours and minutes rather than days…
Ivan Villa
Hey! sorry should have been clear this is not the current behavior would be a feature we could add. Im just trying to get on the same page to see if its something that would be a solution for you here :)

Ivan Villa: Hey Ivan, thanks for clearing that up! Sorry for the misunderstanding! Yes, basically you are right, I would want my duration "locked down" by default, and then have the ability to extend or shorten duration if required.
In fact, now you've mentioned it, only having one date field and duration (which could be specified in minutes, hours or days) seems like a more elegant solution than having start and end dates and times... But I digress....
Any solution that allows me to click once to reschedule the time or date of a task which already has a start and end (i.e. a duration) would be a huge time-saver. This could potentially take many forms but as long as the solution reduces clicks to a minimum it would be very welcome.

Ivan Villa: This sounds exactly like something that would make my life 100000% easier. I have tasks that are synced to Google Calendar, so when a task needs to move later/earlier by an hour it is so many clicks to move it - either by changing the start and due dates, choosing the time and scrolling and clicking; or by moving to the calendar view and finding that task in the calendar (week view) and dragging it to the spot it needs to be.
If you have ever used Adobe software, the click and drag that they use to adjust a parameter value would be super cool here. So if you placed your cursor over a certain section of the start/due date, your cursor changes to indicate you can drag left or right. Then when you click and drag it changes both start and due dates to be earlier/later by the desired increments - it could jump in 15 minute increments. See it in the attachment and use here: https://youtu.be/NwdqQyb1WUE?t=257
Or at the least, a similar set of options that are like the 'Set Recurring' box. But instead it is a 'Move' box where you have the ability to select 'how many' of 'what' you want to move the dates by in a set of drop downs:
MOVE 'start&due' / 'start only' / 'due only'
BY 'X number/amount'
OF 'minutes' / 'hours' / 'days'
You'd save me another day every week with this kind of ability.

I think the we should have the option of setting the Due date based on the Start date. Foe example the due date should be set for 7 days after the start date, or 6 hours after the start time etc.
