We already offered our help a few years ago - in the meantime we have switched to another tool which is available in German...

Paulina Makles: As far as I understand, you are asking for voluntary work. I'd love to help, but since I pay for ClickUp, I would expect ClickUp to pay translators as well (or offer them at least a free subscription).
Pierre Becher
Paulina Makles: I would be available to support German translation as I have already spotted some very bad translations but I'm unable to provide free support on this.

Hi everyone! We are live with German! If you notice a translation that is missing, wrong or not perfect, please report it via https://dev-forms.clickup.com/333/f/ad-448052/107EC7C4OA2UUYK753.
You'll notice there is also an optional question in there if you are interested in participating in an increased capacity by actually translating strings of our product :)

Roland Illig: Great suggestion, updated!

Briana Ings: I am unable to submit on this link. I am not in the workspace but I tried with someone form the list as the reporter.
anyways my feedback:
mouse over the dependency source red circle icon, in list view
"Abhängigkeit wird blockiert" - > "blockiert eine Abhängigkeit"
mouse over the dependency target yellow triangle icon, in list view
"Auf Abhängigkeit wird gewartet" -> "von einer Voraussetzung aufgehalten"
Michael Kosko
Yes, that is very nice. Is there also a form, where we can point out translation errors? As some others pointed our here in the chat, there were some errors. And we probably will encounter some more with time and changes. E.g. my favorite error till now was, that somewhere "Due date" was translated with "Geburtstermin" for some time which retranslated to English would be "expected date of birth" (it seems to be corrected now). I´m glad to help with pointing out errors, I just need to know where :)

Michael Kosko: haha wow our mistake 🤦♀️ I'm so glad that one is fixed now. I just pinned a post but favorite this form to send us more feedback! https://dev-forms.clickup.com/333/f/ad-448052/107EC7C4OA2UUYK753

We've launched German as a new language in ClickUp!
Check it out in your ClickUp account settings!
Julian Pustkuchen
Brendan W: Thanks a lot! There's one major issue for us. We'd like to keep "English" as default. But it's always switching back to German after hours or days. Are you aware of that bug?
B
Briana Ings
Julian Pustkuchen: can you please try clearing your cookies after you switch back to English? If that works it will confirm the issue I think this is, which we know about and are working on.
Also, I'm curious - why do you want to use English as default?
S
Steven Kaminsky
Brendan W: Nice, thanks!
Julian Pustkuchen
Briana Ings: Just tried that, but no luck. After logging in, the language is back to German!
Followed these steps:
- Set language to English in my preferences
- Deleted all cookies in the browser
- Logged in
=> German again!
I'd like to use English, as we're using English in our Company a lot (we're Software Developers) and the English terms are shorter and more precise. Furthermore some translations in German are wrong.
German language in CU is very important for our customers, but not for us.
B
Briana Ings
Julian Pustkuchen: Alright I talked to our Engineering team and I wonder if you have a setting on in your browser to clear cookies when you close out of the browser or at some regular cadence. Do you know? For example, there is this setting in chrome that could be on.
The way our application works is that when you choose a language in the product, we set a cookie to tell us the language selected. So, if you choose english, we will set a cookie "english". If there is no cookie, we default to set the cookie to your browser language. So, if you have your cookies getting cleared frequently, then we will keep defaulting back to your browser language - which presumably is German?
Julian Pustkuchen
Briana Ings: Thank you for the technical details!
We'll check that. Still I think you should consider to refactor that implementation. The preference in the user profile should be the "truth" and as it is
always
set for logged in ClickUp users
, there's no need for such fallbacks. For users not yet logged in, the technique would be fine.So I don't think this implementation is totally perfect?
PS: Just checed my preferences and the setting is also set back to German again! Would your explanation still fit?
That selection should not only be persisted in a cookie!
I switched to English and never switched back to German. Still it's back to German now!
B
Briana Ings
Julian Pustkuchen: Unfortunately the explanation I gave explains why the setting went back to German. If your cookies cleared, we re-set your language to German. I agree this is not how it should work. We've got it on our radar to fix but in the meantime if you can turn off a setting to clear your cookies frequently that should do the trick in the short term!
Julian Pustkuchen
Briana Ings: Thank you! It's most important that it's on your bug-list :) Until that I'll try to workaround it locally. Still I couldn't find a related setting and all other cookies are present!
Happy to hear it will be fixed.
Julian Pustkuchen
Briana Ings: Just wanted to let you know that all other CU Users in our team experience the same as described above.
So I think this should really be redesigned away from the cookie solution.

Benennung der Elemente in Docs für Einfügen einer Liste ist identisch. Zuoberst müsste stehen (Tabelle) statt (Liste) in Klammer. Icon stimmt, aber Benennung nicht.
Samuel Schneider
Paulina Makles instead of "Mich" you should write "Ich". "Mich" makes no sense at all here in German.
Titus
the last task option "Mergen" is wrong translation of "move", must be "Verschieben"
Julian Pustkuchen
Titus Brendan W I also reported the same weeks ago, but no fix yet. I guess you're aware of that.

I'm sorry, but the German translation is terrible. For example: "Manual" => you wrote "Handbuch" (which means a book with instructions), you should translate "manual" to "manuell" ... you should consult German people for the translation. Or at least use deepl.com ... Thanks!
Sascha Kirchdörfer
Tanks for the german interface! If you added german decimal point (,) and date format it would be perfect.
One additional thing I'd like to suggest, to translate "To Do" with " zu machen" is not common in German language. "zu erledigen" would be much better.

Sascha Kirchdörfer: or simply keep it as To do, is also possible in my opinion.
