Task Colors Across Views

My coworker and I were discussing how it would be super helpful if you could change the colour of "cards" or "tasks" according to lists. Right now you can assign a colour to a list, but it doesn't do much beyond that. If you could make it so while viewing a whole project each task had a colour according to its list, it would make it much easier to track progress. Whether the whole background changed colour, or you made the borders of the tasks change colour, it would be a super useful feature. This is specifically related to board view, but could potentially be applied to box or list as well.

Hey All, hope you are well!
Just wanted to quickly drop a survey based off of the use cases you described below. If you have some time available, mind filling this out so we can get a sense of the most asked for features?
(Don't worry, I made it short)
Task colors would be so incredibly nice to have, especially if they work with automations. I'm personally really excited to hear your thoughts, and to learn from your specific usecases that could make this extremely useful in ClickUp!

Bummer that this recommendation is not on the roadmap.

It might be easier and create more options if a user could just manually change the color of a card then just create an automation for change card color to whatever color based on the automation triggers. Then users can create whatever they like whether it affects one task meeting a specific criteria or all tasks on a particular list.

Hey all, if I'm understanding this correctly, we want conditional formatting for tasks? Colors if certain conditions are met? Not going to lie, I've been eyeballing this feature quite a bit, and would love to hear your use cases! I will return with a few questions for you all, to understand fully what each of you would like to see in this feature.
Thank you for your patience! I'm just as excited about this request as you all are!

Max Weiten in my case, i would just love to be able to color tasks, not by Status or any other condition, but by just coloring it. It could be another option on the filters:
- Color tasks by Status.
- Color tasks by Custom Color.

Max Weiten Yes, being able to color by criteria/conditional would be great. But also, I would love to be able to color ROWS in list and table views.

Yes, I’d also love to see conditional (and manual) row coloring.
Here are a few concrete use cases from my daily work:
• Due dates: If a task is overdue ➝ color the entire row red.
• Controlling / margins: If a number or formula field drops below a certain threshold ➝ turn the row orange, then red. Super useful for monitoring project margins or budgets.
• Missing estimates: If a task has no time estimate ➝ highlight it in red so these tasks don’t get lost.
• Manual highlighting: Allow manual row colors to visually emphasize important tasks or priorities.
These are just a few quick examples. I see a lot of potential for better clarity and controlling with this feature.

Max Weiten I think the primary request was to color the task in function of its list location. So when you see it in a bigger view than the list (let's say home), you visually can see where they come from.
This seems to me more reasonable as a first step than a more complexe conditional formatting.

It would be actually nice that tasks can have a colour assigned in the same way "Dropdown" or "Label" custom fields does. Right now we are using custom fields to relate tasks to projects, but it would be even better to have a list of projects and add a relationship to that list. The only thing that is preventing us going that way is the absence of colour in the relationship field.

Just joined clickup and it would be very useful if could change tasks color based on location. We moved from shortcut (because of their docs) but in shortcut it was very convenient when you can distinguish tasks between projects based on color (not only for calendar view but for board view as well)

+1 for this. Would be helpful for calendar views where we would prefer to color code based on task type rather than status. Status could be a portioned off corner of color and text, or just text.

Color coding things makes life so much easier to see things at a glance. It would be great if the color coding of relationships carried over to the related list and even colored the task.
