Subfolders
building now

It would be very convenient to have the ability to have subfolders. I use folders for classifying projects. For example, Projects would be a Folder name. 2019 Projects would be a Subfolder name.

Update Nov 2025: Hi everyone! I know it has been a while since we last shared an update on Subfolders, so thank you for your patience! We are in the last mile of development to enable beta access. We are heavily testing it internally and so far it's looking great! I will update here with the form to sign up for the Beta when available.
Previous update (May 2025):
I know this feature is top of mind for so many of our users and we are committed to getting it right for you! While we hit a few roadblocks in our development process since my last update, which have slowed us down, we are once again making great progress on Subfolders behind the scenes. Last time, I mentioned our new permissions model, and I'm excited to share that work is about 80% complete, and we are pushing hard to finish it up. Once that is done, we just have a few more areas to button up to get Subfolders working seamlessly across every part of ClickUp. Here's a very quick demo of how it's looking in one of our testing environments: https://share.clickup-stg.com/clip/s/t333/341fe33a-0b5d-4a3c-b710-7d42ede694eb/Subfolder%20Demo%20and%20Updates.webm Thanks again for your feedback!

Caroline Ginty - the Beta form is already up and running on the ClickUp v4 page. Link below:
If you scroll down, you will see an option to sign up for Beta subfolders. The direct link to Beta subfolders that anyone can fill out has been available for a couple months now. Link below:
In the 4.0 keynote from the CEO of ClickUp, he mentions that
subfolders has already been released to Beta users
. My team is launching ClickUp to our entire company on December 1st and need it asap for our structure. Link below: I have already shared these links with support and have consistently asked for updates. As a fellow Product Manager, I get it- work is complicated, dates are hard. We would at least love to just hear if we can expect it before or after EoY.
Look forward to hearing back soon!

Any idea on the number of subfolders within subfolders that will be permitted?
Dimitri Weslosky
Alex Edwards In various videos, demos, and keynotes, they have talked about only doing one level to start off with.

Will there be a status update before end of year?
Even a simple "it will / will not be rolled out before 2026" would be immensely helpful and appreciated.
Everyone is likely doing some form of planning, input, or configuration in preparation for Q1 / 2026. Users to know whether or not it's expected to launch by January so they can build, update and train accordingly, especially as this feature would fundamentally change how many structure their projects, departments, and workspaces overall. Right now project managers are sitting on their hands wondering what to tell people, whether to start, and how soon they'll need to pivot.

We are just starting with ClickUp and want to use it, among other things, as a Confluence replacement, i.e. to collect numerous documentation. A hierarchical folder structure for Docs is essential for this. I should therefore be able to create a “Documentation” folder in a space and then a nested structure of subfolders below it, in which we organize our Docs. In my opinion, this is a very important feature.
Thank you

Deeper Goal Folder Organization (Sub-Folder)
Sawyer Nelsen
I think it would be super beneficial to have the ability to create main folders for our sub-folders to keep the goals organized more. For example, I have employees that all have four goals per 4 months, and now that we are 2 years into this process, I have 20+ folders roaming around my goals space that I have access to. I wish I could make a folder for the current year and drop all of the current employees into that folder so it is more organized with better "breadcrumbs". I'm not sure if this is a feature or not so I'm sorry if I'm repeating myself! :)

Folder inside a Folder

It is really necessary the introduction of Folders inside Folders in a Clickup Space.
With the current hierarchy, there is just 3 levels of subdivision. In many cases there are needed more.
This is something that should be very easy to add and makes a huge impact organisation-wise.

Any way to get in on a beta here or update when this will be released? Vincent Varghese

Vincent Varghese Any update? Based on Dimitri's comment below and my own version 4.0 is already being rolled out. But I dont see it yet. If your CEO went as far as to announce it, you must be close, and I'm sure, being in tech, you've come across the concept of 'Done is better than perfect.'

Update I just created a new workspace just to see if I would have nested folders based on Dimitri's comment below and the fact that Click-Up 4.0 is supposed to be applied to new workspaces. I'm afraid to say, but there are no nested folders. This is kind of silly. Vincent Varghese, what exactly are you guys waiting for? An absolutely perfect product? Do you guys think companies like Microsoft, Adobe, Apple, and Amazon release perfect products? Definitely not. I work for one of those and can tell you we absolutely do not. It took forever to get a very simple feature, you guys were silent on your feature request boards, and now you cant hold true to your announcements, are you trying to kill off your customer base?
Tiffany Patton
Shakti Ramdass done is not better than perfect when it comes to ClickUp. I've been waiting a long time for this. I don't want it released just to have everything else break.
Eduardo Rosa
I remember there was another request for this, but I can't find it anymore. They were working on that and showed us some previews, I really hope it's still on track.
