Split tasks - multiple task schedules / allocations on the timeline
planned
Gamba (BW)
It's very common that some tasks may take a long time to complete, and in that period they might be interrupted or paused by some circumstance, and resumed later.
Right now, there isn't a comfortable way to visualize this, because having the task split in two or more separate tasks might lead to redundancy in it's descriptions, checklists, etc.
Having an insanely long task all over a Gantt diagram isn't optimal either, specially when it was really worked on 50% of it's declared time.

Exited to move this to planned as it will allow a lot of new workflows for ClickUp and true resource management.

When in timeline view, it would be great to be able to split a task so that you can accommodate PTO and Office Closure easily. Or, maybe right click and duplicate the task so you can drag and drop it where you need it after the PTO time.

Split task - Ability to have multiple task schedules/allocations

The “Split Task” functionality, as the name describes it, allows the possibility to interrupt work on a task, due to cases such as an unplanned event or even a task reprioritization, you can split the task so that part of it starts later in the schedule.

I use ClickUp for managing any different things, not just project or task management.
If you look at the attached screenshot below, I use the Gantt chart view as an Absence Calendar for my project team. The project member Eva is off-workwork from December 10th to 17th, but she is also off-work from December 23 to 25th. Right now there is no way to split up the task into different dates. So Excel or MS Project are still the tools to use for this purpose.
I use Task Split very often in MS Project, when using ClickUp, I do really miss this feature. It's very useful with task split, please implement it.
See video here so you understand how Task split in MS project works https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zsJX3b3MdgY&ab_channel=SkillForge

Is this on the horizon? This is needed for ClickUp to make it's way into the resource planning software space.

Just want to make sure I get this right, but it sounds like the main place you want this visualized is in gantt. Other teams have used statuses like "blocked" to signify when a task isn't moving, but it does lead to long lines in Gantt view.
Let me know if thats the case and I can pass feedback along to right team!

Ivan Villa: I think it should be noticeable in all views that display graphically the time period of the task, such as Gantt, Timeline or Calendar view.
My idea is not just that you can see if a task is being paused or blocked RIGHT NOW, but rather being able to either plan ahead a specific period (or periods) in which the task will be interrupted, or look back and analyze how much time it was actually worked on a task, by accounting for those declared interruptions.
Thanks for your interest! I think this could be very helpful :D

It would also be very neat if you could see that both active parts belong to the same task but it was interrupted (maybe a dashed line connecting them or something)
