pin favorites in 4.0

Hey Emma Dacey & Lindsay Soriano - thanks for this feedback on the 4.0 layout. We are exploring some options here for favorites, but in the meantime, you can pin objects to the top in 4.0 in order to view them in the same place that the pinned favorites bar appears in 3.0.

Being able to rename the items in the top bar like you could in V3 is sorely needed. When pinning a Favorite to the top bar, its name gets reset to its default.
Edit: You can change the name in the sidebar, which changes the item name in the top bar too. This is better. For some reason, I had the names reset while pinning them, though (after migrating from V3). You can also remove the Favorite from the sidebar, after which you can't rename it in the Top bar. Honestly, this UX is way more confusing than it should be for a feature as basic as this.
Another edit: Nope, I take that back: The renaming renames the actual list or task, instead! Can I reiterate how confusing this is, after V3? Also, I seem to have Favorites with titles that do NOT match the List! See the 3rd screencap. (Apparently, all my attachments also got replaced by the last uploaded attachment while editing... Fixed now, maybe.)
With client projects that all use a similar or the same template, you end up with multiple tasks and lists with the same name. Having five items named "Design" (for example) in the top bar makes it completely unusable and could be avoided with manual renaming in V3.
CU not showing the context of a task in several places, such as "Track Time", has already been a reported issue for ages, and this only makes it worse.
How come the new Task View has more options for placing the Favorites than the Sidebar and the Top bar?

Teemu Matinlauri YES, I can't believe this feature didn't get transferred from v3!! I live by my clickup favorites pinned to the top and not being able to give them shorter nicknames (without changing the name of the actual list) has made my clickup feel messy, confusing, and frustrating.

Do I understand from the comments that this has been on the "fix-it" list since at least May 15, 2025? When is it going to be fixed?

Favorite layout in a Horizontal UI
Rodolfo
Hi there,
As a user that starred from clickup 2.0, I created the habit to use 'favorite' and tray to keep everything easily accessible.
In Clickup UI 4.0 I did not find a way to display favorites in a horizontal manner. Since spaces, folders, and lists are already displayed vertically, I would like to suggest keeping the feature from 3.0 in this new layout.

I completely agree with all comments here. I've worked with this for a few days to make sure I didn't just need to get used to things, but this is a step backward.
Pinning favorites to my top nav individually is kind of a pain. I too am finding it very easy to accidentally unpin something, and then do a deep dive to find and re-pin it. I also miss the ability to rename favorites to something shorter. Another issue I have found is that I cannot reorder the favorites once pinned. I accidentally unpinned one and when it was re-added, it is not in an optimal place.
I've spent at least two hours reconfiguring ClickUp to get back to my previous settings.

Karen Diener, Heather and voters - as Caroline mentioned above we are working on a few improvements to the experience here and one of them is a quick win coming that should address the unpinning experience. There will be an confirmation toast whenever something is unpinned with an option to undo!
This is will be one of a few tweaks we will make to address some of the feedback in this thread!

Agree, just add back as it was! A simple thing in 3.0 that's now super annoying. The answer that this is more flexible now is insane. If I didn't want it pined it wouldn't be in my favorites. This is just another thing Ckickup has managed to make complicated for no reason at all.

Hi again. I'm finding it's also waaaay too easy to accidentally unpin a favourite from the top and then I have to go and find it and repin.

I was just upgraded to 4.0 today. We're shortstaffed as it is and I do NOT have time to waste trying to find everything again. I can't find my favourites anywhere. The AI support chatbot answers are no help. I've logged a support ticket but I need to find them now. They are my lifeline to get through my day today.
EDIT: Found them in the browser version, but I don't think they're all there. The ones I've found I've moved to the top. Individually. And the UI is awful. But, they're there. Funny thing though, one of my colleagues only has the favourites in the desktop app and not in the browser. I only have them in the browser and not in the app and I've checked for updates.
I feel like there used to be an easier way to get to the everything view too but I can't be 100% certain.
SECOND EDIT: Why don't my layout/customisation/navigation settings save between the browser and app anymore?
45 minutes at my desk and nothing done except trying to make clickup work.
THIRD EDIT: I'm pretty sure I could rename the favourites so the labels could be changed to something slightly different (and shorter) than the actual favourited item.
I just want 3.0 back. 😢

Heather: I'm very sorry to hear that you're having these issues with 4.0! We have a few things in flight right now to make this experience better:
- We're building an option to one-click move your Favorites to the top bar; if you were a pinned favorites user in 3.0, this will eliminate the need to move your items one-by-one.
- We have an active bug where changes made to the global navigation are reverting; our team has already fixed this issue and it will go out with the next release.
- For aliasing in 4.0, you can still alias/rename favorites (or pinned) Views. So you can use this menu to favorite (or pin to the top) a specific view, rather than the list as a whole, and then you will be able to label them however you like. We're exploring bringing this back for more object types in 4.0 as well, if that's something you'd find valuable, please upvote here: https://feedback.clickup.com/feature-requests/p/renaming-favorites-without-renaming-original-item-alias-keep-feature-from-30-in
We are definitely still iterating on 4.0, and want to make it the best version of ClickUp, so we really appreciate the feedback!

Caroline Ginty Thanks for the reply. I've voted on the other too since it appears most of my favourites can't be renamed/aliased.

Option to pin favorites to top of Workspace - 4.0
Julian Devos
Since the update to Clickup 4.0 there is no option anymore to pin your favorites to the top of your workspace, only to the Home Sidebar.
My request is to bring this feature back into Clickup 4.0.
Now your favorites are not visible when you are in a task & you have to click on the sidebar to get it visible, as you can not lock the sidebar to stay visible.
Other option would be to lock the sidebar to stay open.
Jack Collins
I'm in agreement with other voters, the reconfiguration has added steps I never used to make, and decreased my productivity
