"Fake" or virtual users/items

I would like to be allowed to assign a task to someone whom is not on click up, but is taking care of the task. It could be a company or a person where i would be able to create them under "users", give them a name and a picture, but not connect the user to anybody in clickup or anywhere ells. Users i create so that i can get an overview and remember who accepted to do a task.

Hey, everyone!
We wanted to provide an update to this Canny after taking in a lot of feedback, and spending a great amount of time thinking through this!
At this time, we believe our strategy of allowing unlimited free read-only guests on all paid plans enables our users to create accounts to be used as placeholders or in place of people who are not represented inside of your ClickUp Workspace.
Additionally, Business or Enterprise Plan Workspaces have access to unlimited Teams (user groups), which can be used today as placeholders for supplies, external contractors, etc.
This isn’t something we’re looking to implement now but will continue to monitor feedback and review comments left here!

I think is an essential needed feature. In my case, the lack of it, is most important point why I am still using MS Project for doing team planning instead of ClickUp. Sometimes to get market share from others apps like that one, which have been used for years, an additional sacrifice is requiered. Just my two cents.

Another use-case for "placeholder" users: https://clickup.canny.io/feature-requests/p/add-people-to-a-project-before-actually-inviting-them

Okay... so how do I add a fake "read only" user which Brendan W says is the solution?
I try to add "fakeuser1@mydomain.com" but it just sends a confirmation email to this non-existant account and there is no way to assign a name to them or make them active in clickup.
Are you suggesting I actually have to set up an email for them on my server? Them log in under that account to assign their name? And do this for EVERY dummy user I need?
That doesn't feel like a solution. It feels like a kludge.

OK, so using he magic of gmail's name+extrainfo@gmail.com naming convention, I can bulk add accounts (name+Account1@gmail.com, name+Account2@gmail.com). You still have to set up each account, but you only have to set up 1 email.
But here's the show stopper: Guest Accounts (free) can not be assigned to spaces, or workspace... so to add them as the assignee on at task, you have to first assign them at the LIST LEVEL before you can add them to a task.
So for a general dummy user of "External" -- meaning somebody else not in our shop -- I'd have to add them to every single list just to be able to indicate that task is being taken care of by someone else.
This is tedious, and not a solution.

Brendan W I saw your comment. However there are cases where we don't want a person in a list because they can see everything in that list - or they are a client that is not good with email. The reasons are endless.
I think the fact you have 2,800 upvotes says something about a feature that might be lacking from ClickUp.

For me, it is not even about the number of users. As a team leader, I need to assign tasks to test out different workloads and have an overview of all my projects in order to better decide my resource allocation. This should be implemented ASAP. Considering moving my company out of clickup.

Ok, tried the Teams feature, seems to be doing most of what is required, besides making me feel totally freeky for adding a single person, a vehicle or a gas measuring device as a team.

Fully Agree as a new user it was the one of first feature that I found missing. For example my accountant will not connect to clickUP but I assign tasks to him.... So fake emails with fake profiles but very annoying and not encouraging to move premium.

WTFreak is this feature not being considered!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!????????????????????
Ryan Tirrell
You should reconsider. This is an exceptionally important feature for people who work as contractors (like myself). I would not ask 100 users at a Business to register on ClickUp. I would ask 5-6 Module Leads to join from each company and then be able to assign work to 20-30 'fake' users in each area, so that the work can be managed effectively.
You don't surely expect me to pay Hundreds or Thousands of Pounds per year for the privilege of managing a single project, surely?
Ruud
Ryan Tirrell: you can get the business plan for 6 users and create empty teams representing the other users.

I personally stopped my Clickup subscription because of this.
When you use a free product, I'm all for being used, that's normal, but a product that I'm paying for, whose expansion marketing strategy takes precedence over providing a service to its users, doesn't bode well for the future...
Especially as the percentage of people who will force themselves to invite people they don't want to invite on their board because of this obligation must still be low, but dissatisfaction...?
