Add people to a project before actually inviting them
Kelly Claus
Use case:
For client projects, I like to set up my the project/list completely before the client has any opportunity to see the project. Ideally this would include tagging them in comments, assigning things to them, etc.
As it is now, I have to:
- I set MOSTLY everything up...
- I try to remember where I need to mention, assign, whatever...
- I invite them to the project, but tell them not to go into the system yet because it's not ready for them... (often, they ignore this because they're curious or excited or bad at following directions)
- I quickly go back in, mention, assign, etc...
- I email them back and tell them "Okay, you can look now"
But in my dream world, this is how it would work instead...
- I add the person to the project (without inviting them)
- I mention, assign, etc.
- I invite them to the project. Donezo.
I could see this being problematic in that when they get invited, they'd get a slew of notifications. So not sure how that would work. But you guys are real smart - I'm sure there's a solution. :)

This could be integrated with the even more popular request for "fake users": https://clickup.canny.io/feature-requests/p/fake-or-virtual-usersitems
The ability to create a "placeholder" user, set everything up, then add an email address to invite that person into their new world. (Or don't add an email, and let them exist as a fake user to keep track of stuff).

Seriously - How has this NOT BEEN ADDRESSED YET? Making the entire ClickUp useless... Spamming people is not a way to manage projects.
Only after setting up the entire project (and can see the responsibilities of everyone) do i want to notify people - Also only selected people.
Anyway - No point to ClickUp for me then. ClickUp3 is not intuitive and essentials are missing. Preferred 2.

100%. When I build a customer dashboard, I have to keep a list of every place I need to assign them, tag them, or add them as a watcher after I invite them. I definitely don't want to invite them before their dashboard is ready for them. Even a placeholder for them would be nice.

This is am essential that is missing

I want to be able to manage projects entirely without my team ever having to get on Clickup. That's not part of their job. I am trying to do it for myself. But currently that means I can't assign tasks to anyone, which makes the whole thing pretty useless to me.

This would be a dream process! 🤩 I love this idea

I'd like for this to apply to Jira Imports as well. I don't want to have to invite folks into ClickUp just to map the task items to a user. This is especially important when you are testing or setting up a migration into ClickUp, and you don't want to pre-maturely invite folks to ClickUp before the migration/testing phase is complete.

Great idea. Would love this to be changed too.

I have a few scenarios where I have to manually track others work and am not able to invite them (technophobes) but I would like to use this feature to know that I'm waiting on them to move to the next step.
