Merge Chat channels

It would be great to merge chat channels, with merged messages being ordered within the target channel according to their timestamp as if there were never 2 channels.

Our primary use is when it's time for a list to "retire" because the business or department has grown in a way that there's separation or a different organization system in play that we would be able to take location specific chats and merge them when non location specific so that we don't loose chat history but can still archive a list that isn't serving the organization anymore.
Brendan W
Bianca Shaffer I'm not sure I follow! Are you wanting to disconnect the Channel that is tied to a List and have it be a locationless Channel once your use of the List is over?
Brendan W
Hey, everyone!
Do you expect to be able to merge a Channel that is locationless with a Channel that is tied to a Space/Folder/List? Or is just merging locationless Channels with each other the main concern?
Thanks!

It would be great to have the option to merge any two chat channels regardless of their location. Sometimes staff will accidentally create a new chat channel.
Brendan W
Bradley Velsink If you merged a Channel that is locationless and a Channel that is tied to a List together, what do you expect to have happen?
Jackson James
Brendan W this request is mainly to allow Slack channels to be imported into (or merged with) existing channels.
What many of us expect to happen is that messages from the merging channel are slotted into the destination/existing channel in chronological order of timestamps, as if there were never 2 channels.
What would be helpful, is if there was a small glyph/icon on all merged messages (next to the timestamp) indicating that the message was originally in a different channel.
Hovering over that glyph/icon could give users a simple tooltip stating the name of the original channel.
For Slack imports, it would be helpful having a tiny Slack logo next to the timestamp indicating the same thing.

Brendan W We have previously added a "Chat View" to the lists, as you can see en screenshot #1 ("Dialog"). This used to be the only option and therefore, all our chat history is now under these. We would like to move this to the chat that is now available on the list level (not as a view, but as an integrated part of the list). However, currently, we are not able to transfer the chat history from the chat view to the integrated chat – and that's the problem.
Even better, we would like to be able to transfer it to the chat that is integrated on the space-level, as we are moving client communication to space-level instead of list level given the new features in ClickUp.
So, basically, what we need is an "Import" function in the new chat-section that allows us to import the chat history from a specific chat view. Then, afterwards, we can just delete the old chat view from the list.

Jackson James excelente!

Brendan W as reported, the main problem is that today we are unable to migrate from Slack permanently, because when we import from Slack, it generates a random channel, with a random list, which doesn't make any sense. The idea would be that when importing a channel from Slack, we can merge it with another channel related to the clickup list, for example. Another point would be that the channel does not necessarily have to be linked to a list. It may just be a separate channel.

Hi Brendan W Just merging locationless channels.

We are literally suffering the same in our workspace as Kasper Bengtson detailed
Brendan W
Kasper Bengtson: Sounds like what you're looking for is the ability to convert a location-based Channel (in this case a legacy Chat view) to be locationless. We have that in the works but isn't the same as merging!
Brendan W
Rafa: Hey! Sounds like you're actually looking for this feature request: https://feedback.clickup.com/chat-feedback/p/import-slack-to-existing-clickup-chats
Brendan W
Roberto Senabre: Thanks for the feedback!

Brendan W Yes, there are 4 resources that end up getting confused, but which are essential:
- Merge chats.
- Import Slack Channels into channels already created (i.e., merging them)
- Import channels from Slack as independent channels, without the need to link to a list, folder, or space.

It would be helpful to be able to merge channels. Imports often create duplicates and/or team members are creating "extra" channels.

Disabling or removing a chat from a space or list is impossible. What if I don't want to have a global chat for a space but only for a specific list in the space? Force to have chats for everything creates an unorganized experience.

Being able to connect a general chat created normally (not on list) to any list afterwards. so you will not loose the history of the chat.

This seems like a pretty simple function offered by competitors, this really should be available to us, is there an ETA on this feature?
