Delete Channels from a List/Folder/Space
completed
Alex Looper
Right now, we can manually create channels outside of a list and delete them with no problem. But when we create a channel inside a list using Channel View, there is no way to delete it.
This causes a buildup of extra channels on the backend. We can only hide them, which clutters everything, especially if a channel is created by mistake.
Please make it possible to delete channels that are created through a List → Channel View.

The Beta is now live!
Go ahead and give any feedback you have while trying to delete your location-based Channels! Find them in the Trash, recover them, or create a new Channel on that List after deleting it.
Soon, we'll be launching the ability to move or convert Channels to locationless, as well as archiving!

Excited to share this is now finally out of Beta!
Any user with the correct permission level can delete location-based Channels. Find them in the Trash to recover them, or create a brand-new Channel on that location if you wish.

We're launching this (finally!) as a Beta!
If you'd like to be included, please reply here so we can add you to our list.
This Beta will include the ability to delete Channels from locations, as well as recover them from Trash. Few conflict scenarios are included, such as when a Channel exists on a location but you try to recover or create a new one etc.

We did migrate the project related channels from Slack to ClickUp a while ago.
At the time it wasn't possible to integrate the channels in the client space, we had to create a separate list for each channel.
We cannot move the existing channels elsewhere and that kind of clutters our well streamed client spaces. It is a bit hard to explain - if you need more information I can always provide you with a screenvideo!

Rebecca Holderbaum: Yes, you weren't able to import Slack Channels into existing locations (Spaces, Folders, or Lists), but that functionality should be available now if you take a look.
For any existing Channels, we'll soon be launching the ability to convert them (to locationless) or move them to another location - stay tuned!

Any feedback, guys? How's it been?
David Haddad
Brendan W please add to these workspaces ASAP. Thanks!
EDIT: looks like this was already rolled out to production? As it now appears to be possible to delete such channels.

Brendan W can the 'add channel' button be moved? I've accidentally clicked that thing so many times. Putting it under the '+view' button would make for a cleaner interface and stop accidental creation.
Brendan W
David Haddad: Yes, it's rolled out! You should have access :)
Brendan W
Natalie Williams: Thank you for the feedback! Why do you find that you're accidentally clicking it?
Natalie Williams
Brendan W I think it's an issue with the sidebar auto expand/collapse (it's something that happens when I'm working rapidly, so maybe a second click when the menu is collapsing...not entirely sure, but it happens several times a week that I click into it). It doesn't make sense to have an "easy access" button for a channel when you either want it or not for a given location. It makes more sense for it to be under the '+view' button where it's accessible, but doesn't clutter locations where it's not needed.

Do we have a date when this will come out?

Hi there,
we migrated our team's Slack channels into ClickUp Chat. As part of that migration, each channel was created as a location-based Channel, automatically bound to a dedicated List (e.g., our folder "[com] Channels" contains several Lists that exist solely to host a Channel and contain no tasks at all — same pattern repeats across multiple client Spaces with "project-channel" Lists).
Problem is: there was no other way to migrate the chats vom Slack to ClickUp
These Lists now clutter our Space/Folder hierarchy, but the Channels themselves are actively used for daily work, so deleting or archiving the underlying List is not an option — per your documentation, that would delete/archive the Channel and all its messages along with it.
My question: is there any supported way to detach a location-based Channel from its List/Folder/Space (converting it to a standalone/locationless Channel), so we could remove the now-unnecessary List from our hierarchy while keeping the Channel and its full message history fully intact and active?
If there's no self-service option for this, is it something your team can do on the backend, or is a "convert/detach Channel from location" feature on your roadmap? We've seen related feature requests in your feedback boards (e.g., "Disaggregate Channels from List") but no confirmed timeline.
Thanks for your help.

Brendan W Hi, is this ability added yet? thanks🙏

Brendan W how long are we looking at this feature and the feature to limit who can create channels?

Wayne Staniland
I accidentally created a channel in a list and after an hour of trying to try & delete or undo this, have just realised the ability to do this hasn't been actioned yet. Please fix - you shouldn't have to delete an entire list over a mistaken addition.

Wayne Staniland: Coming soon! Stay tuned!
