Archive Channels
planned
Honey
It would be nice if we can archive chats to retain the historical conversations (messages and files are still searchable). We have just migrated from slack and we had a ton of channels there that we don't need anymore because we will try to utilize the Clickup tasks activity section, however we would like to have those channels archived so that we can go back to old discussions, what were the decisions made and if there were important files shared. Great to limit this option to the owner and admin users also. Thanks!

IMHO: Since archived lists are hidden and can be displayed setting the filter to show archived lists, there should be a global workflow similar to this for anything that can be archived and thus being re-displayed the same way.
Generally: Thanks for bringing this feature forward!

Hey, everyone!
Excited to share that we're about to start building the ability to archive a Channel, but we wanted to hear your feedback on how it should work 😊
When you archive a Channel, and that Channel is located on a Space/Folder/List, do you expect the Channel tab to still be present?
Or do you expect it to be hidden/removed?

Brendan W, this is just my opinion, but I would say for us it would make the most sense if it was hidden/removed from the location as well as from the list of possible channels from the navigation. If not the chances that a duplicate (or more) channel for the same location could be created, which could get messy quick. It would be helpful if they were still searchable though and if needed, they could be unarchived. Logs for who archived/unarchived, etc. would also be helpful.
Brendan W
Joseph Plaizier: Thanks for taking the time to leave your feedback!
What do you expect to see on the location in that case? No "Channel" tab and no "Add Channel" button either I assume?
You'd just go to Browse channels/search for it to find your archived one?

Brendan W, yes, something like that. It may be helpful if the archived channels had their own filter or page in Browse channels as well. Thank you for listening to my thoughts.
I look forward to what others have to share and to the features that get built.

Brendan W My suggestion is that the Channel tab should still be present and the label italicized + faded (or grayed out). That matches the appearance of archived lists, etc. It also makes it clear that the channel history is still there and can be unarchived.
Problems with other options:
- Remove channel tab: Creates confusing/inconsistent UX. Where do we go if we want the channel back? Is the channel history still available?
- Show "Add channel" tab: Where did the old channel go? If I click this, does it bring the old channel back?

Brendan W Gone. Hidden. Removed. Vamos.
The whole reason for this request is that this channel is locked to the location, and many of us didn't want or need a channel in that spot...but now we are stuck with them. So for that purpose, it must just go.
But I see the point of being able to access the channel history, in relation to the location.
So, when it is a location based Channel, can the option to keep it visible or remove it from view be given to the user?

This is sorely needed! Please add!

I agree

Channels should archive when the associated list, folder or space is archived.

Lindsay Gariepy: That's the plan, stay tuned!

Many Chat channels build up over time - archiving a channel would be very useful to keep only the current active channels visible for the team & allow an admin user to do this rather than every individual 'unfollowing' old channels

Archive function for chat

I want to retire an old chat that I am now hosting in a Dashboard instead for ease of use.
I would like to keep the old chat in case folks want to search it for information, but I don't want it living in the space, causing clutter.
Can you implement an Archive function for chat so it is still searchable, but not in the way?

Archive, delete or sort PLEASE
Brendan W
Carly Sales: Hey! Can you expand on what you mean by "sort"?
C
Carly Sales
Brendan W Hi Brendan, it would be great if we could custom sort Channels on the sidebar.
Right now the drag and drop option available for Spaces isn't available for Channels. I'd like to arrange them in the same order.
Thanks!
Brendan W
Carly Sales: Hi Carly!
You can choose how any section in 4.0's Home sidebar is sorted, as well as what Channels show (or how many). See the photo below!
You can also drag and drop Channels around if you set a custom section to "custom" sort.

Brendan W When I create a new section to customize order, I'm unable to add channels so this doesn't work. It's also a workaround we'd then have to add to our SOPs.
In the channel section, the only sort options are alphabetical and recent. The customization options for all of the standard sections should be the same. If we can drag and drop the order of spaces, it should be easy to do the same for channels.
Brendan W
Carly Sales: Thanks for the feedback! Yes, you're correct that the Channels section in the Home sidebar doesn't have manual or custom sort at this time.
For now, add any Channels that you want to organize into a custom section set to "Custom" sort.

Carly Sales
Brendan W Thanks! Do you know if this is on the radar for updating? Or can we add it?
Brendan W
Carly Sales: Unfortunately no plans to share at this time.
But you said above creating a custom section doesn't let you add Channels to it. Do you have a video or gif of that issue?
Brendan W
Carly Sales Hey! following up here 😊

Archive chats (for all followers)

We'd love to archive chats. When a person archives a chat, that chat should automatically be archived for all chat followers as well and disappear from their chat sidebar.
