Ability to set a public channel as private

Either the built-in channels, or channels that were created as "public" by mistake, should have ability to be converted to private with members restricted.

This has been possible for a while! Channels can be make public or private as you'd wish!
Location-based Channels are linked to their locations, thus the location being public or private will change who can access the attached Channel.

Marty Papamanolis we will be adding this to the chats you create which aren't attached to spaces, folders or lists.
But the ones that are attached will always inherit chats from the location they're attached to.
Does this match what you were asking for here?

Dean Phillips partly. I think the use case is being able to prevent guests from joining these space-wide chats (even if they have access to a list within a space). For instance, if we add a client to any list within a space, it seems currently they will be able to join the chat for the space, but we would want this to be explicit.

That's how it works. Chat permissions follow the same permission settings as the rest of the platform:
Anyone with access to spaces will have access to the chat in that space, and anything below them, as long as they're public (the folders/lists within that space).
If you add a guest (or any member) to a list, they'll have access to that list but not to higher-level locations unless they've been granted access to the entire workspace.
Since spaces can't be shared with guests, they won't have have access to that chat either.
Also note: Guests aren't supported atm, but that's coming within the next week or so 😊
