Web app performance and speed issues
in progress

Today, we released the first of many performance and speed optimizations for our front web and desktop applications.
Noticeable improvements:
- 80% of all drop downs now open instantly
- Slash commands are faster
- Sidebar: faster clicking, expanding, and loading
- List view: tasks should render faster and in a much larger quantity
- Opening task view is faster
- Drag and Drop everywhere should be less sticky and more performant
Things that may not be immediately noticed, but add to overall performance:
- Dropped ~15MB from bundle size
- Many memory leaks fixed (if you feel like ClickUp gets slow after leaving it open for a long time, this may fix your issue)
- 1K dom in App shell
- Reflow fixes
We have many other performance improvements (for example, opening task view instantly) that are very close to being released but we could not release them today as we weren't 100% confident in them not causing issues yet. This is just the first of many releases that will begin happening every two weeks from here on out.
Additionally, we'll be releasing backend performance optimizations in March that make things like loading notifications (and anything that waits for a request) much quicker.
Thanks everyone for your support, we won't stop improving 💜

@Zeb: Hello!
I care a lot about reliability, so one of the things that I like in your message is that you want to avoid ClickUp working erroneously.

This seems to be very slow. What is the best browser you guys suggest to use?
Mohamed Mekkawy
it is not just slow, it does not open at all, I couldn't open my workspace the whole day just stuck with this page

David Desrosiers
Loading the main page of app.clickup.com today (after these new speed optimizations should have been implemented), shows 151 separate asset requests to 23 separate domains comprising 129 separate domain URLs.
Here's a unique list of domains that these requests came from:
This includes 13 separate domain requests automatically dropped by uBlock Origin's default rules.
This transferred a total of 23.48MB of content to my browser in 29.71 seconds.
That's nearly 30 seconds to load the main page. That's gloriously slow.
While I appreciate the amount of work being done to optimize these requests, there's still a long, long way to go.
One thing that can help here is moving to HTTP/2, which has been supported by most browsers for the better part of the last 5 years. Another optimization to look into is "domain sharding", which is explained very well here:
Indigo Locomotive
@David Desrosiers: yeah - what to say, asked it several times. got well ignored, and there is no problem ;)
Suzanne Yada
still crazy slow. i don't even have that many tasks yet - maybe 40 total? 5 tasks per list. but it takes a full 5 seconds to load a new list when i click on it. 5 seconds feels like 100 years in web time!

@Zeb did release 2.73 include any of the performance fixes? Clickup still seems extremely slow today.
Waleed Elaghil
Hey @Marcus D! We had an issue early today but I believe it's fixed now. Please let me know if you're still facing issues with speed while mentioning exactly where and we'll immediately assist you, thanks!

Clickup is still very slow and cumbersome to use. Loading 100 tasks with labels causes stutterings and freezes as the labels get loaded once and then again when you scroll over the same tickets.
Creating new tasks too usually gives you the helpful spinners, and opening tasks through links is a headache since you can accidentally click something and close the ticket even before the loading has finished.

Slow Click Up today, loading lists pages and all. Is everything ok?

Guys, come on, search is not working again today. Is this a joke?
Brendan Wolfe
@Matthias Thoen: Had a small hiccup but all is well now!

Matthias Thoen
@Brendan Wolfe: indeed, today search is lightning fast. That is how it should be at all times. Hope it can stay this way.
Brendan Wolfe
@Matthias Thoen: Exactly, that's the plan! High levels of growth put a tweak on our servers.
