True collaborative editing / real time editing / Make the task description like a google doc
complete
Basil Weibel
It is nice to see if somebody is viewing a task and to get a warning that somebody else is editing the description of a task. However, we need more!
Our organisation is used to google docs. So we would expect to see the cursors of all people currently working in the description and see their text as they type letter by letter.
Right now, we usually see a warning, and then nothing for 20-30 seconds until it updates.
So what typically happens is that people copy paste a link to a google doc into the description and then work there. Obviously this is less then ideal for search, visibility, usability etc.
To avoid this, we need the description to behave like a google doc in the sense that multiple people can type at the same time and both see what the other person is highlighting and typing.

So, so awesome.
One missing piece, mentioned in Landon's post, is commenting — threaded and assignable. We use the heck out of that in GDocs, would love to see that make its way into CU.

Lee Fuhr: Hey Lee! don't count that feature out. It is one we are looking at just didn't make it on initial release. 2020 will be a good year 😎

Hi Zeb,
I'm really excited to see what's coming with the planned collaboration improvements. It would be excellent if Docs were more robust to allow for:
- Real-time collaborative editing
- Comments / feedback pane
- Approval function / workflow
- Sharing docs externally with a password (with comments enabled). This would allow feedback on content from people outside of your organization / non ClickUp users.
The potential of ClickUp as a legit content collaboration platform is fantastic. Thanks for all your hard work!
Zeb
Landon Pendlebury: These two are in progress right now:
- Real-time collaborative editing
- Comments / feedback pane
For this one, you can share with a URL but not using a password. We don't currently have that planned:
- Sharing docs externally with a password
Zeb
Landon Pendlebury: This is planned (using assigned comments):
- Approval function / workflow

Hey Zeb what's the update on this? It's a gamechanger - especially if it's applied to the Docs view!
Zeb
Alex House: We are working on this now, there's a lot to it, but we plan to ship it next month!

Zeb: Woot. Related to this - Would be awesome if minimized tasks could also have some way of seeing if someone else has updated or is updating an item one has minimized. Sometimes you plan on working on it next, and are doing updates outside of clickup, to only find out...it's been taken care of or has changed!
Zeb
Jenn Feliz: With our overhaul of notifications, you'll see when a task has a new activity without having to go to the notifications page. If you see the activity, then the notification will be cleared automatically. We're planning this right now and will be working on it in Oct!

Zeb: Super cool! Looking forward to it.
