Task description

In our application each planned experiment is a task, and we use the "description" box of a task to briefly summarize the results of that task. We then change the status to "closed". However the only way currently to see this description is to open the task.
It would be nice to be able to glance at a list of, say, closed tasks, and see at least the first few words of this description. But to my understanding this requires that the description be made into a "field" that can then be viewed with the task list.
Can the description box be converted into a field?
