Task 3.0 UI Size
planned
Sarah J Thayer
Not sure how to explain this but everything in the new task view seems bigger, or takes up more screen space, than the old view? It's less "cluttered," yes, but it makes me feel like just the task window has been zoomed in somehow.

Voting for a cleaner UI too.... Also attachments right at the bottom isn't helpful, can we have it to the right side where links and activity is as a button

Agree. I hate the new flow of the tasks. I generally like that it is less cluttered, but spacing everything out so much is burying information.
And making it so I can only see checklists, subtasks, or custom fields at a single time negatively impacts workflow. Too many clicks to see what is relevant.
I would prefer all the task basics to be spread accross the top (like it was before) so that my description and fields can be moved up, and I could see my checklist items at the same time.
It's crazy to me that we are burying important information to be able to do tasks. What's the point of having the functionality of a checklist if my team is never going to use it cause they have to actively look to see if there is even one there.
At minimum, you should add a little notification bubble or something next to the subtasks and action items tab (similar to the related in the right window) to show that there is something there.

For sure, having a forever scrolling and long task isn't the solution either. I think the new format is taking steps toward improvement with having the 3 different sections.
But we definitely need to try to get as much important information in view at one time and spacing everything out and using huge text unnecessarily is just making those efforts toward improvement moot. (As all the important information is still buried, and now it's buried past clicks.) We need to try to get more on the page.

Agree. I think the text size in that task view screen is too big making it visually inconsistent with the rest of the window.

Ivan Villa Does the team not use a style guide?
Ivan Villa
Samuel Schneider: We have new guidelines for 3.0, but a lot of the existing app doesn't follow the new guide so you will see task view not matching what you see in other places at the moment.
Design team is making a big push for this though so we should see things start to polish up as more updates roll out

I have also had this thought, and found this feedback when I was going to raise a similar topic around the way things are spread out. I don't think the idea of having the 'add new' items near the task id is working, when I adda due date or tag it appears somewhere elses on the screen. There was a lot about the prior 2.0 version that worked well. Having the key items in the heading across the top was one of them. Due date, priority, time recorded all fall into this category.

You are not the first person to bring this up, I was just on a call where we talked about the need to have to zoom out to 80%
Thinking if it's just a few tweaks that it needs or if we should consider adding a personal setting that allows you to have the design "spacious" or "compact"
Sarah J Thayer
Ivan Villa: Thanks for the response! Personally, I would suggest just making a few tweaks so that it's more cohesive with the rest of the interface. Maybe in the future having a workspace-wide setting to change the overall look and feel to spacious, normal, or compact would be nice.
Ivan Villa
Awesome that's helpful! The team is working on some of the bigger missing features right now, but we are working on getting a list of refinements organizes so we can start to add some tweaks and polishes.
