One thing I would love to see chat do that most basic chat applications do not, is tag an individual message. In addition to this I would also like to be able to tag a post with a topic in the same set of tags as the chat so I can group single messages and posts by a topic.

Additionally, the ability to tag multiple messages at once and the ability to manually merge messages into threads would be great. This would help keep conversations that happen on the fly organized.
