Subtask status change when parent status changes
Laura Mann
I'd would be great if this could be an autmation: If task status changes to XY then change all subtasks status to XY. Even better:
If taskstatus changes to XY change all subtasks, except closed ones, to XY
Use case: When a task is put on hold, we need to put all subtasks that are not closed on hold as well(as this impacts our ressource management).

ClickUp give us the automation option! It doesn't need to come as default but a user should be able to set it up if required via automation.

I was just having this discussion earlier today! We actually have a set of five different subtasks (each with their own nested subtasks), and I was hoping to create an automation so that when a subtask’s status changes to complete, it updates the parent task to the next step in the workflow (for instance: data entry or quality review).

ClickUp, please, I’m not sure how this isn’t standard! At the very least, having an automation that changes one task’s status based on the change of another. I feel like having the status of the parent task affect and be affected by subtasks should be a high priority.
AI is cool and all, but please set that to the side for a little bit to get some of these basic feature requests hammered out.

I have always found Click Up to be a great software for many things. This is so basic that I am beginning to question why it is not done? Clearly EVERYONE wants this and it is so basic that I can't understand why this would not be at the TOP of every developers list.
"Hmmm, do you think our users would want task status to change when all subtasks are complete or vice-versa?"
"What are you an idiot??? Why would our users want that? They want to spend hours mapping crazy logic automations and spend hours try to find work arounds... that is the fun part of our software."
"Oh, I get it now. Ignore them when they ask for basic changes to be made and just act like we don't hear them... Smart..."
Yeah nice work guys. I assume that is the conversation because I am trying really hard to figure out any other way this could have gone...

Should be standard out of the box functionality. When you have a task change status to cancelled as example... all the associated subtasks should be moved to cancelled. At minimum there should be a way within automation to set this up. Standard stuff!

Zeb do it please!

Update on this please?

Here's another frustrating example of a fairly reasonable, standard functionality request being ignored by developers for years. I'm getting more and more annoyed with ClickUp the more I work with it. I've only been working with it for a few weeks now. I wanted to love it, but I'm not really loving it. My list of complaints grows...and grows...

This seems like a fairly rudimentary update to automations. I don't know why you would build subtasks without, in some way, tethering them to their parent task

It would be great if the automation of this feature in ClickUp could be implemented, as it would greatly help users save time, ensure accuracy, and streamline workflows.
