It would be useful if we could change the status of the parent task to 'In Progress' or whatever the user chooses when a subtask status is changed. Similarly, if a parent status changes, changing all the subtasks to that status, or an option to change to a specific subtask

We totally agree with this proposal and would like to see it in production as soon as possible.
We believe that the behavior should be automatic: when a subtask changes state, the main task should update its state based on a configuration defined by the user. For example, if a subtask is changed to In Progress, the main task could be automatically updated to In Progress, without the need for manual intervention.
In addition, we believe that the status of the main task should be calculated based on the most restrictive state of its subtasks. For example, if a task has four subtasks with the following states:
Pending
In progress
Completed
Blocked
The main task should be shown as Blocked, since it is the most critical state and the one that best reflects the real situation of the work. Once the crash is resolved, the status could automatically be changed to In Progress as long as there are any active subtasks.

I can't get a few kinds of automations to work:
- Parent task to Child sub-task
I'd like to move a task to "Ready" and have it move a specified sub-task status to "Ready"
- Child sub-task to Parent task
For example, if "Content Review" sub-task is ready, I would like the parent task to automatically update to "In Review"
- Sub-task to Sub-task within a task
I would like automations to help with flow between sub-tasks...for example, once "Edit + Mix" sub-task is set to complete, "Content Review" should automatically move to "Ready" so that the assignee can be notified
(current workaround here is using dependencies and automating status based on that)

This is a very manual process that should be automatic. When someone starts on a subtask...the parent task should change to In Progress! This throws off our project status reports.
