Subtask Assignee Option for Templates (Customize)
planned
Mariah Hird
A new feature, when duplicating a task to select subtask assignees as well as the overall assignee, is great. This would be a good addition to the templates customization options and shouldn't take long to add, since the option already exists in the duplication features.

Mariah Hird Thank you for your feedback! Could you please provide more information or screenshots of the type of options you'd like to see? Do you want to be able to choose the specific user(s) to replace the assignees and subtask assignees on the task after template application - even overriding the assignees set in the template itself?
We’ll keep an eye on votes and community interest to help us prioritize this feature. Please encourage others to add their votes if they’d like to see this too.

My main issue is that I can't dynamically assign tasks to the accountant who submits a form. When a form is submitted, a task template is triggered, showing a list of tasks and/or subtasks. Some are assigned to fixed team members, but others should go to the submitting accountant, as there are many possible accountants. The only workaround I know is adding a separate automation task, but this is cumbersome and limited by rule actions.

Lily Chan, when creating a New Task Template, you can customize the import options and select assignees, but this selection includes both main and subtasks. It would be helpful if you could create a template and choose whether to keep or remove the main assignee and subtask assignees independently. What if you want the subtask assignees for a specific task to be the same all the time, which would be the reason for the template, but the main assignee changes depending on who is creating the task? We also have automations in place for assigning tasks to task creators, and when templates are used that have a main line assignee already in place, it cancels out the automation and removes the assignee altogether, making the task creator have to go search for the unassigned task they just created.

Jason Logsdon: Thank you for your example use case. Could you please also vote on this canny request, as I think this takes things one step further than just having a subtask assignee option for templates. https://feedback.clickup.com/feature-requests/p/variables-dynamic-values-in-templates-task-name-description-assignee-etc

Mariah Hird: Thank you! This clears it up. We can work on this as part of the revamp of the import options we're designing. Thank you!
