Statuses by task type
Ivan Villa
Problem:
Often within a single list, we have different types of tasks: some represent projects, designs, and smaller action items. Each one should go through their own set of statuses, but this is currently not possible.
We are forced to either use dropdown custom fields as a workaround or create large status sets to try and encompass everything, leading to confusion among people.
Ask:
- Give the ability for statuses to be set by type.
- This will allow each task type to have its own status workflow.

Use case for us would be that we have what we call 'Information' or 'Project' task types which are used to hold all the information on a Project so it can wash up into a view for stakeholders, but we aren't actively working on the actual task so the normal statuses of Not started, In Progress, etc. don't apply. So the statuses we need are different to those of the rest of the tasks in the lists.

Any update on this?
Ivan Villa
Stephanie Zang: Not yet, I will make sure to update it once we get to planning phase but we are looking at fields by task type first.

Our team could definitely use this.

Same as the views by task type, if we can have task types drive the layout, the status, and also how we run automations to route that task type throughout the business it would be literally insane to have that level of control.
The beauty of this design would be if we create a task type for a client on an account plan (the origin being the client need) and the task type is a bespoke project (like building a video) then based on that task type we could a) automatically add it to another list (for my creative team) when it hits the right status. Then the creative team can be notified and get to work on it.

Totally agree on this request. In our organization we have a use case wherein we use two different task types, one is Epic and other as standard Task. Epics represent the overall project whereas Task are different components within a specific project.
The Epics need to have statuses such as Requirements Analysis, Implementation In-progress, On-hold, Production Support etc. whereas Tasks need to have statuses such as To-do, Development In-progress, Code Review, QA etc.

Alternatively (or in addition) statuses by level! AKA in a given list, the main tasks have one set of statuses and the subtask levels have their own.

With the implementation of Task Types throughout ClickUp this seems like a no brainer. While a seemingly small change it would allow a lot more in terms of user flexibility and work implementation. My Task Types are broken down into type of work, all of which have different flows. I currently use dropdown custom field as a workaround but being able to set custom statuses by task type would be a huge improvement for me.

Hell yes, please plan all those task type features asap! Status, layout, relationships, all of them (was a list of 6 or so).... - I am tired of all the workarounds I have to find and use that don't reflect the wished way of working
