Snooze Tasks

Sometimes a task is not relevant for a period of time (because of priorities or because of circumstances and availability) and you might want it hidden.
I would find it very useful to right-click->"snooze" a task for a period of time so it doesn't clutter my reviews and so I could reconsider it after this "snooze" period
This feature is useful only for tasks that you do not want to see in your daily/weekly reviews in the snoozed period of time. And I personally have plenty of these...

this would be so helpful... I often have multiple tasks that a have to get back to later in the day - or tasks that I need to check in on multiple times a day.
Example. I have contacted support for an external tool we use and would like to snooze the taske for an hour or so.. so I can declutter my workspace and keep focus on the tasks that need my attention. The after the hour has gone by I would like to taske to appear again so I remember to check if I have received a respons on my support ticket. If so = Yay. If not = I would the Snooze it again.

I implemented snooze by having custom field of type Date. Then I update my views to keep only tasks that have that field unset or where that field is today or earlier.
It is tedious to manually modify each view to support this custom field.
If it was a standard field, there could be
- A button/hotkey/command per task to snooze until later that displays the datetime selector
- A option for views to show or hide snoozed tasks (similar to me-mode, or show-closed options or show-archived), defaulting to hide.
- A custom filter option for is snoozed, which is syntatic sugar for "snooze date is set and is in the future"
It's a very common usecase to leave unactionable tasks for some time in the future. I'm ok with getting notifications for those snoozed tasks because someone in the team may update them as the situation develops, even if they remain unactionable.

Here's a description of my use case for snoozing, which appears to be a little different from others I've read here.
In my case, I have many recurring tasks that either recur on a schedule or some constant period of time after completing the task. Here's an example of the situation that often comes up for me that ClickUp doesn't support yet. Say I have a task that recurs once a week. On a given week, for whatever reason, it might take me e.g. 6 days to get around to that task. Then, per the recurrence schedule, it will up again the following day. Since it's a task that really only needs to be done roughly once a week, I'd like to "snooze" (or effectively reschedule) that task by updating its due date to the next scheduled occurrence for that task. Of course, this can be done manually by updating the due date, but it would be much more convenient if an automation existed for updating the due date according to the recurrence schedule of a given task when an action such as removing a tag is triggered.
Note, I know that for my example above, a better recurrence method would be to use relative dates (e.g. 7 days later) upon completion of the task. I just gave this example for illustration.
Also note, I know that there are automations for updating due dates. However, they only allow you to select a constant number of days after the trigger or a specific date. In my case, a given list may have many recurring tasks each with their own recurrence schedule, so it doesn't make sense to have an automation that has them all recur a constant interval of time later. There should be an automation that allows you to update the due date to the next occurrence of the task in question, based on its recurrence schedule.

I would love to have it work like the snooze function in gmail. Hide from view and bring back at the time we snoozed it to. Then if we need to see what we have in snoozed we can turn on that status like the closed status does.

I would have to say removed from sight.

Ability to hide it from view would be key as the point of snoozing is: "get it off my list, I can't do anything about it right now".

Hey, everyone! When you snooze a task, do you want it to be hidden from view or actually snooze any notifications you have (or will) receive from that task?
Holly MCDS
Brendan W: Both. Make it disappear from my world entirely till it's time for it to come back.
Rob Leslie
Brendan W: I'd like it to remove it from view, but if I get any new notifications on that task, have it reappear. I'd also like to be able to have a way to view all of my snoozed tasks.

Debbie
Brendan W: I would consider "snoozed" to be a temporary "status," and while generally hidden from view, the user could still include/exclude it in any view via the views filters. Further, when the user sets the status to "snoozed", they would also be able to designate what the status should become once the "snooze" period is over.
Brendan W
Debbie: Understood! What do you want to happen to the notifications you have received from the task already? What about the notifications you could receive while the task is snoozed?
Remco van der Steen
Brendan W: it should only be hidden from the view until something happen in that task.
If a colleague placed a new comment or so, you don’t want to miss that.

Brendan W: good point, I think that any activity during snooze should unsnooze it, including reminders. This would make the snooze period implicit, but a friendly warning during the snoozing action would be good enough for me.
An import feature might also be to highlight recently unsnoozed tasks for review.
There are many ways to implement “snoozing” in the current system, the main benefit IMO of adding this feature is making it easy to use and explicit in the UI, rather than overloading other features. So thinking of the status implementation variant, I (personally) would prefer it to be built in and less flexible.
Fergus Macdonald
Brendan W: snooze would behave like a status in my opinion. Like a closed status that changes to an open status at a predetermined date. Notifications would come through as normal and not affect the status. There would be an easy way to see all tasks which are snoozed.
IMO pausing notifications is confusing for a user. Let's say a colleague comments on a snoozed task, they need to notice it's snoozed and therefore that you won't be notified of their comment. This seems slightly unintuitive.
With regards to changing the status based on a notification, perhaps a colleague adds information to a snoozed task so that the info is there when the task is ready to begin. That action doesn't change its status, it's just recording info with the task. If they want to change its status that would happen consciously by unsnoozing or changing its status.

Brendan W: Primarily hidden from view. You want to use this functionality to hide a task that you will certainly not need for x days / weeks, or for e.g. recurring tasks that you do not want to clutter your board when the due date is far away.
Missive does a great job at snoozing functionalities. Here is a screenshot from their flyout when you click on a "snooze" icon / button:

Brendan W: Would be awesome to have it hidden from view. And would be great to have a filter or separate section where snoozed tasks can be found/viewed too.
Notifications should still work as normal though. Because if notifications are also snoozed, then an update/notification that could make me decide to “unsnooze” the ticket would be missed!
Alissa Dotto
Brendan W: both!
Jessica Obie
Debbie: I think you can already do all of this with the current automations available!
Jessica Obie
Brendan W: I think just hidden from view, and notifications should unsnooze the task.

Tim Herinckx
Brendan W: Hide from view

Brad Hawkins
Brendan W: Thanks for asking. In most cases I think it should be hidden from view. Usually when snoozing something in most other types of software it tends to be a case of not wanting to see/deal with it as that point in time.
In addition to snoozing, it would be good to then have the ability to select the un-snooze date time as either custom or as a quick select (eg: this time tomorrow, or this time next week etc).
I do this with some emails in my email program “Missive”.
Thank you.

Brendan W: Both would be nice, to make a setting in a list or in the personal user profile.
Kayla White
Brendan W: For me it's impt to be able to snooze and hide from view, to pop up later.

Lynette Diaz
Rob Leslie: Maybe the option to get notifications can be toggled on or off.

This would be amazing. It's the main reason I still use a very clunky system in Gmail (because they have a snooze button now). Please implement this! Thank you.

You have no idea how much this would be a life-saver. Pleeeeeeaaaase make it happen.

What I just started doing is to:
- Use the "Start Day" column
- Super-simply setup filters as in the attached screenshot
What happens? Only the tasks that do
not
have their "Start Day" in the future show up OR the ones that do not have a "Start Day" set.In this way, as soon as I set a task's "Start Day" for a day in the future, it disappears from my list until that day comes. In other words, it is
snoozed
! Yaaaa! If you still want to have a list that shows all your tasks, just create another view without the filters :)
Hope it helps!
Lucas
Samuel Klacman: Thank you! This is brilliant! So simple, and it does exactly what is expected form a snooze function.
I may just add: for those who don't want to use the "Start date" field, they still can do exactly the same trick with a date custom field (which you could name "Snooze date" for instance) instead of the "Start date" field.
S
Samuel Klacman
Lucas: Yeah, that does the trick as well! In my case, I chose the Start date because in the free version, there are only a limited number of custom field one can use.
Lucas
Samuel Klacman: Sure, sure! And moreover, it is quite a logical use of the "Start date" field if one thinks about it =)
Lucas
Samuel Klacman: One drawback, though, is that you cannot snooze a task until a specific time of a day. You just can choose which day, but not at what time. So when a task in unsnoozed, it always reappears at the beginning of the day.
I would find it really useful if it were possible to snooze a task, let's say, until later today at 15:30 for example.
Do you have any idea how to implement this?
Jessica Obie
Lucas: I have a status "snoozed" that I manually put tasks into after I set Start Date for when I want them to unsnooze. Then an automation "when start date arrives, change status to active". I think that could work with the timing!
