Set notification settings for users as an admin
planned
Eric van Horssen
Can the default notification settings be controlled by an administrator?
The current default settings for a user, are to broad for our goal.
If the user upon initial start of use, gets too many notifications, they will just go into the settings, and have the urge to turn all off.
(Or they use a mail rule, to turn them over to an bulk folder)
Please make it so we can set a different standard per Team

This would be really helpful to control migrations

One of the biggest barriers for our staff to begin using it is the amount of notifications are enabled by default. This would be a huge step forward if we could set defaults!

Brendan W to prevent anticipating on this without every being able to use it, can you share if this is an intended enterprise only feature?
Recently there have been some added to the enterprise level only which were highly anticipated. E.g. https://feedback.clickup.com/feature-requests/p/spaces-more-granular-permissions was a bit of a dissapointment for a feature I was really happy to see.

In my company, we add our clients as guests so they are up to date with what is happening. They are completely unhappy with CLICKUP and they prefer that we move back to MONDAY.COM just because they are receiving too many notifications, which is completely unacceptable. We need to be able to set up the notifications for them rather than having to visit each one of them to change the notification settings on their computers.

I have a company with a lot of tech illiterate staff. They get overwhelmed with the notifications, and I need to set it up for them. I'd like to be able to do this as an admin instead of jumping on each of their own computers.

Please let Admins do that!!

As I was filing out the survey and was asked how many presets there should be, I thought it would be good to implement a vacation preset. I am sure this was mentioned here or in another set but just wanted to make sure it was mentioned.

Hey, everyone!
As I previously mentioned on this Canny post, we're going to begin working on improving the admin experience for notifications and notification settings in ClickUp!
We have a few questions that we'd love to run by you all. If you have a few minutes free today, please take the following survey to help us out:
Thanks!

Brendan W: It would be awesome if part of those presets could also be a fixed set of bookmarks, favourites and default view. I know these are in Canny also ... somewhere.
Brendan W
Arnoud Post: Hey, there! Could you expand on what you mean?
Arnoud Post
Brendan W: Seting up notifications is something you would mainly use when you setup new users or guests. You want them to get the right notifications, but not get overwhelmed. Same as for what they would see when first joining your space. So I also prepare their view. Making sure some dashboards and views are in their favourites so that they find the most important views quickly, etc.
Daniel Urbano
Brendan W: Make them really granular please!!
Some people want to set different notifications by space, folder, lists or event item types (coming soon), custom fields, priority.
Would be really great if you could set some rules with a combination of filters and automations.
Brendan W
Arnoud Post: Thanks for the further explanation! Sounds like you want to customize more for them then just their notification settings, which would be separate from this Canny post!
Its something we'll explore and have already been thinking about! Make sure to vote on another Canny for total user account management :)
Brendan W
Daniel Urbano: Hey there, thanks for the feedback! What we're talking about working on here would be taking the personal notification settings as they exist and saving them into a preset.
We'll continue to expand and improve from there!
Daniel Urbano
Brendan W: Great! Will keep an eye on it!

is there a development timeline for this yet or are there too many other improvements still ahead of it?

This would be great to see! I've recently spent the 15 minutes creating documentation for my clients, who are added to the project plan as guests, so that they could reduce excess ‘noise’ from my activity in ClickUp.
They find ClickUp to be largely overwhelming, despite me only assigning review tasks directly to them and would prefer going back to using email instead. I want them to remain in ClickUp to keep all the information centralised, but the user experience of the app is not making it easy. There are so many notifications that you have to manually check/un-check and it's just overwhelming.
How about implementing a persona system instead? For instance, you could have 3 options to initially choose from:
– Client / Guest (‘Don't bother me, unless it's urgent’): Turn off all notifications except for tasks that are assigned to me
– Project / Team member (‘I'm an active participant’): Have most notifications enabled by default so that I can see what's going on around me
– Project Lead / Admin (‘Show me everything!’): Enable all notifications for every activity/state-change from every user added to the project.
I love ClickUp, but not everyone is as tech savvy as me, or can afford the time to preserve when they have a million and one other things to do.
