Set filters for "Linked Tasks" columns and for "Rollup" columns (when rolling up Linked Tasks)
Guy Mannerings
It would be great if we could set filters for "Linked Tasks" columns and for "Rollup" columns (when we are rolling up Linked Tasks).
So, for example, if you have a bunch of Tasks from multiple locations linked to another Task, and you want to create a column in List view that only shows the Linked tasks from ONE of those locations, this is not currently possible - instead, it shows all Linked Tasks from all locations.
Likewise, if you want to create a Rollup column that rolls up the Status of those Linked Tasks, right now, it shows the Status of ALL the linked tasks. But you might want to only show the Status of linked tasks from one specific location.
Other filters could be useful, too, like only showing Linked Tasks or Rollup data where Tasks with specific custom fields, specific statuses, etc etc, match.
So if we could choose filters when creating a "Linked Tasks" column, and filters when creating a Rollup column where the "Related to" field is set to "Tasks", that would be amazing.
This would, therefore, mean you could also add multiple "Linked Tasks" columns, each with different filters.
Also, multiple filters and options for filters should be able to be set. E.g., choosing multiple locations, or location + custom field, etc.
I have attached some mockups of the filter for the Rollup column to make things clearer for that specific case. One shows single filters, and the other shows multiple filters.

We would also like to see the ability to have a filtered linked tasks field. We have a list that contains epics, and a folder of sprints. If we set a list-to-list relationship on each sprint and the sprint template, it results in a very long list of sprints and tasks/stories within each sprint, rather than a cleaner list of just the tasks/stories associated with the epic.

Thanks for the feedback, Guy! Definitely makes sense. For the first example where you are looking to filter the linked tasks column by location, is there a reason why a List-to-List relationship for each location could not be used instead? This would let you show the linked tasks only from a specific list in each column. Obviously does not solve the use case for looking at linked tasks from >1 location, but not all locations.

Caroline Ginty Sorry for the SUUUUPER slow response to this.
Yes, that makes sense. The one negative being you can't just create one Relationship column, but filter it for different locations. So you have to have a few of them.
I think my main issue here is I would love to filter the "Linked Tasks" column.
This would be useful for only displaying the most important linked Tasks, eg., Milestones.
Use Case example:-
*I am tracking Goals across multiple Lists and Spaces.
*I have to create a "Goal" Task for each, which lives in the List associated with that goal. I then name it the same as the goal, and add it to a Goals master List, so I can see it with my other Goals from other areas.
*This allows me to see all my goals as Tasks in this Goals List View.
*I would like to link Tasks to them, so I can see on a high level how many Tasks there are for each goal.
*But I also want to filter them so I can just see, say, the Tasks that are Milestones.
*This would allow me to get a high-level view of where I am at with each, without having to see all the individual Tasks associated with that Goal.
There are some workarounds I have tried but they don't work well.
- Everything -> List View -> Group by List-> Filter by Milestone.
*Generally not a fan of how it looks and how List groups are visualised.
*No way to sort List order.
*Headers forced on.
*Prefer to Create a Goals Space, because Everything view becomes a lot to organise without Folders for Views.
- A simple List view is much cleaner, and being able to see Milestones against the main Goal task in a Column.
*Also allows you to see Columns against the main Goal Task, like Due Date and Custom Fields. You can't do this with the above approach.
*You can group by Task Type, which shows the Goal name then Milestone, but, again, it's quite messy, as it shows the List name, List colour, List description , etc.
I hope that makes sense!
