This is a real issue, but Claude AI told me how to set up an automation in ClickUp to fix it.
Setting up the Automation in ClickUp:
Go to your Space, Folder, or List where you want this to apply (or do it workspace-wide)
Click the "Automate" button in the top-right toolbar (lightning bolt icon)
Click "+ Add Automation"
Set the Trigger → "Due date changes" (or "Task updated" → "Due date is set")
Set the Action → "Change due date" → then set the time to 10:00 PM
Save and enable it
A couple of tips:
If you want this across your whole workspace, set it up at the Space level rather than per-list — it'll apply to everything inside.
ClickUp's free plan has a limit on automation runs per month (100/mo). If you're on a paid plan, you get far more.
This will also fire when someone changes an existing due date, not just when one is first added — so the time will always reset to 10 PM, which is usually what people want.

I'm in London GMT and the fact the tasks without a specified time due automatically defaults to 04:00 means that most of the time my tasks are deemed late before I've even started my work day. This issue has a huge time implication as going into each task separately to ensure that due time is set correctly adds so much unneccessary time spent it's ridiculous! Being able to set your own default time is ESSENTIAL. Please ClickUp can you make this a priority!

There seems to be no workaround, either, unfortunately.
These BEAUTIFUL tasks that are importing automatically to my Google calendar, that are added rapidly and with the intention many others have described previously as "must be done at some point today", are showing in my appointment scheduling platforms as BUSY which is ultimately wrecking my entire workflow. Super sad to see that this has been wanted for so long and not prioritized. I love you ClickUp!! Please implement this feature! (i.e. let me assign a global due-time for tasks with a due date but without a due time!)

Hi! It would be great if we could customize what our default due date time is. We sometimes leave due times off to indicate that the user has all day. In our case, we would change our default due time to 11:59 pm. Having it default to 4am is counterintuitive for us.

Whenever we travel, the hidden due time is different, which messes up the sorting sequence by DUE TIME/DAY. Suggestion: Stick to UTC or a specific timezone, so it doesn't matter if we are travelling or not, they sorting is consistent as the hidden due TIME is consistent too.
