[Request for feedback] AI Command Bar
in progress
Alex Omeyer (ClickUp)
📣📣📣 Team, I'd love your feedback on the new AI Command Bar 📣📣📣
🎥 Here's a Clip going over what we have cooking: https://share.clickup-stg.com/clip/s/t333/f8727da7-e706-48cb-baad-0deb3da28acc/screen-recording-2025-05-23-12%3A45.webm 🎥
I'd love to hear about:
- What you think of the overall concept (using AI in context)
- What Brain queries you run most often per context / location / view (e.g. when in a thread, I often feel the need to have Brain summarise it for me)
- What follow up actions you'd like to take after Brain has given you a response
- What context/data you're hoping Brain would emphasise / pick up when formulating its response to queries in the AI Command Bar
- Anything else that comes to mind

Shreyansh Jain Guy Mannerings Lesford “LJ” McKenzie your feedback made me think of a UX change we could make to clarify how Brain works with context. I call it "Smart Context".
I would love your (and anyone else's) feedback! Check out this Clip: https://share.clickup-stg.com/clip/s/t333/be2fb566-3f42-4bb6-a299-90af10b6958f/be2fb566-3f42-4bb6-a299-90af10b6958f.webm?filename=screen-recording-2025-06-19-14%3A32.webm
WDYT?
Lesford “LJ” McKenzie
Alex Omeyer (ClickUp) after reviewing this my first question is does as it recognizes "summarize this" as the current task your into does it also take into account the documents, attachments in this task or say it was in a list would this query include views if it was a list & even further embedded views all for knowledge? My next question would be what if I want it to take into account more then just this tasks information can I select additional sources for it to take from? A suggestion to go along with smart context and brain in general would be to add in some type of prompt optimizer button that can take our prompt and optimize it for best results in general, & with smart context to help make sure it understands your spaces ( i feel that the ai will have to be trained by us the user slightly and maybe this happens in the space, list, & task description areas that will allow the AI to understand what each space is used for and then can use that to decipher what correct spaces it needs for said query). Also I agree that the Ask AI sidebar and the command center AI should default to different context where the ask ai is more specific and the command center ai is more of a general search, but a source selector on both would be nice for a bit more control and understanding for us.

I agree with Lesford “LJ” McKenzie. He summarized my points perfectly and raised some very good questions.
Also, I believe in the longer run, AI should search all attachments and custom relationship tasks too to search for what we want.
But this will dilute the focus too much for AI to find what I exactly want.
Thus my suggestion is for us to give for granular options to select the lists, tasks, custom fields etc.
The first thing that came to my mind would that with some search agents they can be optimized to find exactly what we want in the way I want.
Smart Context and All Sources and way of interaction difference is spot on. We use them differently.

Shreyansh Jain Lesford “LJ” McKenzie thanks a ton for your feedack!
To address your questions:
- Would "summarise this" include attachments when used on a task: it would not. It'd only summarise the task and its activity. But if you wrote a custom prompt like "summarise the attachments on this task", Brain should be able to handle this. I found a bug with it, but we'll fix it.
- Would it include views when used on a list: currently it doesn't, but we're building a way to support this. Effectively, Brain will "know" what filters you have applied to your view (e.g. tasks assigned to me) and use this info to formulate its response.
- Can you use more data than just "this task": yes you can! You can simply prompt the assistant to do so (e.g. "search the workspace" or even embed specific assets in your prompts). We're also building a location picker to set context just like you do in Ask AI.
- Prompt optimiser: we don't have that yet, but I'd love to build a prompt builder like Anthropic's. We have it for Agents so maybe can generalise it to Brain. Stay tuned!
- Location picker to specify context in Ask AI and AI Command Bar: Absolutely! And good timing -- we're working on it :D
- Searching across all attachments and relationships: good shout, I'll look into this.
- "Smart Context and All Sources and way of interaction difference is spot on": very glad to hear, thanks!

This easy contextual awareness is very welcome for its intuitiveness, Alex Omeyer (ClickUp), but a few flags and feedback points come to mind:
- In its current form, GPT-4o, used in ClickUp Brain, mostly misses even the most basic of my queries to fetch something or do something in my workspace.
For comparison, Gemini, with its Google Workspace search, finds the emails I want even with the vaguest ideas I write for it. ClickUp Brain requires the most specific names to retrieve the right tasks, and that defeats the purpose of using AI in the first place. A simple search in the search field would be simpler.
The above should be resolved with your implementation. Otherwise this intuitiveness will degrade it's performance even more.
- I would like to use it to find and create custom relationships between tasks, or find similar tasks, create subtasks, create checklists, set custom fields, pull details from other locations or tasks, and leave it as a brain note to create crosslinks.
- Please give us the ability to add brain notes from brain chats to tasks, similar to what you showcased. The brain note should have a backlink to the brain chat. The way you showcased the implementation of brain notes was very intuitive and will ease a lot of work in flagging AI-generated content for the whole team to handle differently.
My main goal is to reduce work about work as much as possible with ClickUp AI. This can help me create better backlinks, improve efficiency, and reduce administrative and maintenance work on my plans. I generally use backlinks to draw similarities and help reduce work for our annual or quarterly reviews while improving quality and preparing better plans.
Here:
Brain Chats: Chats saved in our history.
Backlinks: References used to cross-connect at the right time.
Alex Omeyer (ClickUp)
Shreyansh Jain: thanks so much for your feedback!
To confirm I understood it well:
- AI Search quality is most important to you
- You'd like the ability to share links to AI chats
- You'd like links to the relevant AI chat to be added to Brain notes
One clarifying question: when you say "add Brain notes to tasks", I presume you mean task descriptions?

Alex Omeyer (ClickUp)
Yes AI search quality is paramount.
Link to chats not just as brain notes, but as a separate section like relationships (where 5-6 or more chats can stay. Also other chats where the task was referenced can also be there). Difference, eg. I want to cook food. I can have separate chats that can stay there. But after the task was done, I referenced this task in another task, "Teaching to Cook", then there should be link too (created because AI chat was done). All these links can be removed by user at will if they want, but having them is a huge quality of life improvement.
ChatGPT and other apps lack proper chat management to claim themselves as pure digital assistants. Finding pinpoint 100% is not possible in them. Contents in shared links does not update thus that approach is also dead end. But critical analysis suffers if pin point accuracy is not maintained.
On Brain Note to description: Firstly to description but then to relevant custom fields too. Sometimes in some text custom field. Ability to cut note and add it ourselves or by some agent also works.
Backlinking is paramount so context can be found everytime.
Thanks Alex Omeyer (ClickUp) the way you are taking feedback is much appreciated.

Shreyansh Jain: AI chat <> task as a new type of task relationships if a really interesting concept, thanks!

Needs needs needs to be a bigger box.
It's really hard to read any output it makes right now.
Alex Omeyer (ClickUp)
Guy Mannerings: ty Guy! How big are you thinking (e.g. 50% bigger)? Would you expect to be able to resize it as well?
Guy Mannerings
Alex Omeyer (ClickUp) 4x bigger, at least. So 2x horizontal, 2x vertical.
Resize would be useful, too (as long as it remembers size and I don't have to do it every time). Then I can make it as big as I want.
Alex Omeyer (ClickUp)
Guy Mannerings: goooot it, ty! I'll give it some thought to see what might work.

Thanks for taking In our feedback and sorry this is so long wanted to provide a thorough response to your questions. 1. Love it very necessary and needed but correct use will need to be explained well so easy for mass users to understand.
- Be nice if it could AI complete or make better our prompts to update and formated it to work best with the AI in any location. (Monica ai has this feature for reference), finding what needs to be worked on, summaries/updates, sending changes updates to followers or watchers on lists and tasks, creating tasks or lists based on a template or doc I reference, & creating documents for us based on task information and GDrive docs info.
- Try again but change..., move or add to other locations, send out update notifications(will check if an automation is already in place), would you like me to create an automation or AI agent?
- I'd really like it to at least use the embedded views and any location links for reference to outside sources, i'd like to be able to control maybe in a checkbox menu the current ai, knowledge base hierarchy. So you can control by checking off the locations you want it to reference.
I would love for it to be able to:
- create automations for the location
- Be able to work with embedded views, (based on user browser login cookies, so whatever sites I am logged into BrAIn could ultimately access in an embedded view)
- Work just as well with Google workspace docs or close to how it works with click up docs.
- Be able to create and adjust all levels of hierarchy.
- Integrations for data, automations, ai agents, and view embeds: hubspot, QuickBooks, Google workspace, agiled.app, gamma.app, & WordPress.

Lesford “LJ” McKenzie: epic feedback, thanks so much!
A few themes here:
- Improved AI Search
- New AI tools (e.g. create automation)
- More control over AI context / knowledge
- New Connected Brain integrations (e.g. Hubspot, etc.)
If you were to rank these from most to least important, what would it look like? :)

Lesford “LJ” McKenzie
Alex Omeyer (ClickUp) I'd say 1. Brain Integrations (hubspot (native with starter plan if possible) & quickbooks) 2. New AI tools (automations & ai prompt optimization) 3. More control over AI/context 4. Improved search
Alex Omeyer (ClickUp)
Lesford “LJ” McKenzie: Got it, thanks! About #3, would a location picker to set context like in Ask AI do the job?
Lesford “LJ” McKenzie
Alex Omeyer (ClickUp) yes something like this but it really needs to ingest the information in said space into its knowledge base & maybe there is also a check list to what location it can pull from & with this we would need like a general workspace AI knowledge base location where we can store things like brand guidelines, general processes, brand identity/copy & things that will keep the AI customized to our brand and company. - Monica.im has a nice knowledge base creation system for this though it is not perfect.
