I am very wary of this, we don't want private comments as we want everything within the tasks to be open and transparent. Please make sure this is something which can be turned off on lists.

At last something usefull is moving, try to do the nested comments as well Please.

Any update? Our team is now having to consider other platforms as we have been waiting on this feature for years and we were told 2 years ago that it was actively being worked on and almost complete.

We really need this. Maybe something like this: separate tabs for guests and the team, so it’s easier to organize and distinguish the activity. We could also use different background colors to make the distinction clearer.

We use ClickUp for our project management and also work directly with customers, who have access to their respective tasks as guests.

We don't have the ability to write internal/private comments directly within a task's normal comment history, which are only visible to internal team members, while the customer can still see the public comments on the same task.

Typical use cases include internal cost estimates, technical information, QA results, internal inquiries, decision-making bases or implementation arrangements, which are part of the task but are not intended for the customer.

In our opinion, a private custom field is no complete substitute for this. The information is then not in the chronological course of communication, the connection with other comments is lost and an additional workflow is created for the team in which the field must be checked separately.

When writing a comment, it would therefore be ideal to simply choose between:

Public/visible to guests

Internal/only visible to workspace members

Especially for agencies and service providers who integrate their customers directly into ClickUp, this function would significantly simplify collaboration and prevent separate tasks or workarounds from being required for internal and external communication.

Brendan W I think this feature really needs to serve twin purposes. 1) attach direct chats or channel chats that mention a task directly to the task activity (either selectively or automatically) and remain private to only those users unless flagged 'to reveal to task participants) 2) Allow for the reverse. ie a private direct chat/comment or channel comment to initiated from within the task and therefore be available from direct chats/channels. ie they should be one and the same.

Feature request since 2020 is insane. This is so necessary and ClickUp Chat is absolutely not the solve here. I have creative status boards that my clients want access to, however I do not want them to see "how the sausage is made" in the comments. I'm now looking into external ways to resolve this now with a google sheet tracker but it is such a waste of time when I could theoretically share the tracker in ClickUp and change a clients permission to not be able to see the comments. Pleaseeee focus on this. We don't want AI updates we want basic permission features.
