This just came up again as we're building a client dashboard. We really need to be able to communicate with clients about project requests IN ClickUp, otherwise those conversations get funneled back to email undermining our entire client area. However, we can't fully invite them into our ClickUp tasks as we need to be able to discuss and show work to review internally before we're ready to present it to the client.
We've been struggling without this for years and have tried countless workarounds that always end up bloating our admin/operational tasks. I believe this is a universal need amongst all agencies on the platform. I see it's planned, but no update since March of this year. Really would like to see ClickUp prioritize. Any update as to when we can expect it?

Ivan Villa Any updates on this? I really want to move over to ClickUp from Teamwork. This is the only thing that is preventing us from doing so. Is there any chance this will be done before EOY?

Definitely need to enable function of making comments private and share only with selected people. Currently we have to work out of ClickUp to talk about the project, and this is not functional. This is a huge barrier to using ClickUp for cross-team use.

Ivan Villa any update on this one ? From what I know, it was planned on H1 2024.

Any update on this request? I need it to share with my customers. Today they can see all the internal comments, but that's not possible.
Thank

We cannot WAIT for this feature. Please include me in the beta testing!!

Hello ClickUp Team, I received an email with a link asking users to add their thoughts here. My biggest complaint about most private comment features is that they require far too much user attention to use correctly, with the UI for them is designed in such a manner that it is easy for a user to accidentally post private comments publicly.
Common Problems:
- Comments default to public and the user needs to explicitly make a selection to make them private. Making it easy to accidentally add comments that were not intended to be public.
- Visual distinctions that make it way too easy to not recognize private vs public comments.
- There is also the question of whether the entire thread must be public vs private, or whether the two can be freely mixed together? Which is ClickUp planning on?
- Will there be a beta for feedback? I hope so!
Thanks!

David Haddad: Thanks for your thoughts David. I agree with all the things you said about the challenges.
We're doing some infrastructure work to be able to make private comments. Will then focus on the UI to make sure we nail this.
Since this is such a big request, I sure will survey and interview people from this thread who are interested in giving early feedback.

This would be huge! I've been feeling the pains of not having a separated internal communication channel directly on a task.
One way this problem could be solved is that guests only see comments in which they're tagged. Or as Brian Gotts suggested, that there's a toggle in each comment to allow guests to see it—perhaps mentioning a guest would automatically enable this setting, to make it even easier. I always @mention the client to ensure they see it anyways.

As an agency, we've needed this for years and years. ClickUp is a great environment to collaborate with clients on. For large projects and ongoing retainers. However, we always have to mindful as a team as to what we say knowing the client can see everything. I don't just mean not saying anything offensive, there is just some stuff a client doesn't need to see. I.e. super technical trouble shooting of a web dev issue, conversations relating to is something in scope or not, etc.
Given this common agency need, I would request that the default comment "mode" be comments only go to the workspace members with a toggle you click for each comment to extend it to guests. I'm sure plenty of folks will want the inverse, so go ahead and add a setting to inverse this default as well. The icing on the cake, but not as critical for us would be to isolate specifically who can see it. However, we really only need a members vs guests toggle.
