Parent task does not inherit custom fields of sub-tasks
not on the roadmap
Rob Peeler
We have different custom fields and task templates for different task types. However, when those different task templates are applied to subtasks, the parent task inherits the custom fields of the subtasks and it resets the task within that list to include those new custom fields.
For example, we have a parent task for a press release. That release has a subtask "Article Copy" and a subtask "Design." The Article Copy template includes "Editorial Use" custom field and the design task has "Design Need" custom field. What happens is that both of those custom fields are then added to the parent task once the respective templates are applied. I don't want that to happen as I want the main parent task to provide high-level info about the Press Release.
Essentially, I want the ability/choice to prevent custom fields in subtasks from appearing in parent tasks when templates are applied to subtasks.

Thank you for taking the time to provide your feedback. Could you please file a support ticket at the link below?
If the template was applied directly to the subtask, then the parent task should not be changed in any way, unless there are some automations getting triggered. Our support team should be able to help you uncover the challenge. Thank you!
