Ordering of custom fields in task
Quinn Danyluk
When custom fields are created, the order of the fields can be customized in the Manage custom fields for the list view. However, this does not translate to the order that the custom fields appear in the task (which is set strictly to an alphabetical order). The order in the task should be customizable and reflect the order in the Manage custom fields.

Hi all - thanks for the feedback on this! We currently allow for either A-Z ordering for custom fields, or drag/drop manual reordering; however, there is a certain order that is always respected today: Required Custom Fields, Pinned Custom Fields, Custom Fields w/ values, Custom Fields w/o values.
I'd love to hear from you here on how you would like to see this ordering work for custom fields across your Workspace to best enable your workflows across teams!

I'm brand new to CU, still testing to see if we want to use it. Reading through this thread, do I understand correctly that the custom fields in this task, which is a contact card (pic attached), are always going to display alphabetically, and there is no way to re-order them? In what situation does this make sense?

Manual Sort Option for Custom Fields in Task View
Kolton White
The Custom Fields within the Task View defaults to sorting by Alphabetical order. It would be great to be able to manually sort them so as to customize the order for what makes the most sense for the List its in.
For Example, it would make more sense to group some of these in order: (see attached screenshot):
- Using custom fields to gather text information like Imagery or Copy for design requests from a form, and have them next to each other in this list, ideally towards the top
- having something important like a second date field (publish date in ex) at top of list
- correlated link fields (working asset link and final asset link) sequentially in order and towards the bottom of the list.
Hope that makes sense!

Allow custom sorting of custom fields in task view
Kristian Kleemann
We want to be able to sort the custom fields pr location, so that it follows the list view sorting. The attached images show how the order of custom fields varies from the list view to the task view.

Hey, everyone! To maintain transparency regarding our product team's roadmap, we've updated the status of this request to Open. The Product Manager will keep you updated on this post as new details become available. Thanks for your feedback!

Also, in the task view, the ability for our user to see a selected number of custom fields at first glance, rather than all of them, is a very, very important issue. Currently, when we have 50 custom fields in a list, first of all, all sections for which values have been set are displayed to the user, many of which are not mandatory, and furthermore, they cannot be arranged in order. For example, I want the user not to see the buttons in the image below when opening the task, or at least not at first glance, but such an option practically doesn't exist, and the only solution is to hide them for some teams and grant access to others, which practically ruins many of my other views.

This is a must have feature!! Please implement this. Thank you !

Still no on mobile v5.4.8(26226) the custom fields only allow A-Z ordering, so I need to add letters before de actual custom field name to order like I need (like I manually reordered in the Desktop version).

This is relevant for forms as well. When a form is created and set to use custom fields, it alphabetizes the responses - including conditional logic. So the conditional logic fields are out of order also to what they relate to, making the information (that I am trying to collect) useless as it needs to be considered in order. The form is in a certain order for a reason - the responses therefore need to be read in that order. Please fix. This & not being able to PDF form responses is a bit of a deal breaker for us. I don't understand why this issue hasn't been addressed considering the original request regarding custom fields is nearly 5 years ago & essential for forms to be useful! Heaps of development going into the AI features, whilst neglecting the basics of the program. Please, please rectify :-)

Heather M I just commented in another thread about how the prioritization of improvements & upgrades needs a complete overhaul. There are issues with this, remapping subtasks doesn't trigger correctly all the time (ran into this over a dozen times this week and it wasted so much time fixing all the dates), for reschedule dependencies - why doesn't that pop up to confirm if you want them rescheduled or not (similar to how remap subtasks functions...when it works). The CU team needs to start prioritizing fixing bugs, and resolving long-standing efficiency issues with existing features before adding new features. When every day I'm running into issues that are slowing down progress I don't give two hoots about a new feature, I want the core product to function smoothly and efficiently.

Although it is possible to "Reorder" the Custom fields in the Custom Field Manager, the fields show in a random order in the task view.
I realise that I can sort the Custom fields that are in my Space. As soon as the Custom fields are on Workspace level, the order gets random.
It would be great if custom fields could be ordered for each task type, e.g. I need a different order if my task has the task type "Project" than if my task has the task type "Milestone"

Melanie von Schorlemer oh I know, it's so irritating! And when you "reorder" the CFs, they don't even stick in that order in the CF Manager. It seriously needs to be fixed.
Yes, I want to have CF based on task type vs at the list (or higher) levels. (And it would be really great if we could view CFs at the Everything level WITHOUT adding the CFs to the whole workspace.)

Please consider this! Custom fields often represent information that's relevant at different points in an organic workflow, and I want to be able to see them in that order!
