Make it easier to edit templates without needing to apply the template first (e.g. in Template Center)
Michelle Duchene
I shouldn't have to create a task, apply a template, edit the task, then save the template.
I should be able to edit the template directly in the template centre, then close the template centre when finished.

Hey everyone! Thank you for sharing your ideas! In order to help with prioritization, I'm going to keep this request focused on making it easier to edit templates without applying the template first.
I'm using the below separate posts for each of the other main ideas in this feature request:
- Preview a template before applying it: https://feedback.clickup.com/feature-requests/p/preview-a-template-before-applying-it
- See where templates are being referenced (e.g. automations, task templates): https://feedback.clickup.com/feature-requests/p/see-where-templates-are-being-referenced-eg-automations-task-templates
- Ability to organize templates: https://feedback.clickup.com/feature-requests/p/ability-to-organize-my-templates-in-template-center-or-a-template-hub
If you'd like to add a vote and share your feedback on the other requests, this will help our team prioritize your different ideas.
Thank you!

Agreed 100% - Currently we have to have a separate Space in Clickup for all of our Templates so that we can make adjustments and iterate on them in a logical way. However, currently there isn't anyway of easily copying a task using the "/" function so we have to either use the useless "template center" or manually copy tasks individually to each list we need it in, which is very tedious when you have 100's of lists. It either needs to be an easier way of copying/duplicating tasks in bulk or to a specific location using the "/" command or the Template Center needs to be "Live" so that when you view a Template you can see its current state and make adjustments in there

Improve Template center

Improve templates to be modified, created, shared, and exported directly from the template center.
Even created by just uploading a document. For example, create a checklist from a spreadsheet import.
That way, I can export my team's checklists and keep them as documentation.
Also, add a link to share a template similar to task links or ClickUp documents.

Template Centre - Should be able to edit templates here
Gloria Sanchez
Right now, you cannot edit any template on the Templates Centre. You can only access them to use it, but this is where you should be able to edit everything about the templates. Not just view it. PLEASE!

Lily Chan Any update on timeline for this? It's been open for a year and previously marked "in progress." Templates are extremely difficult to use for our team without being able to easily update them.
Lily Chan
Josh Ankenmann Thank you for asking! I acknowledge the difficulty of being able to easily update and manage templates. I don't have an updated timeline at this time. We are currently focused on quality and template reliability, especially during template application, as our number 1 priority.
As an interim workaround, some clients keep separate Spaces/Folders/Lists/Tasks as their original source for template objects.
This is definitely top of mind for me and I'll keep this thread posted when we can get this prioritized and start working on scoping and design for it.

Lily Chan So there is not a way to currently edit the template before applying it to a task list for example? We are struggling without this ability!
Lily Chan
E.C. Myers: I recognize the challenge!
As an interim workaround, some customers keep separate Spaces/Folders/Lists/Tasks as their original source for template objects so that they can more easily modify and update templates.

Lily Chan Those features requests sound good. What I'm still missing is the ability to re-apply a template once the template has been updated. For example: Currently, due to the lack of flexibility of Folder Templates and as a workaround, I maintain my own Folder template as a regular Folder (all with Lists, Tasks, custom fields, etc.). Then, I duplicate that Folder to create new projects (I'm managing many projects at the same time that follow the same workflow). Each time I update or add a Task in my template Folder (i.e. the regular Folder that I duplicate all the time), I have to manually update every single project Folder to follow the new workflow. This is really time consuming. I would like to be able to do this automatically by using a real ClickUp template: Each time I update a Folder Template, I get the option to apply the changes to already existing Folder that follow that Folder Template. As a workaround, I would like to be able to duplicate Tasks (or Lists) to several targets at once. Currently, it is possible to duplicate a Task into one target List (1 to 1). I would like an option to duplicate 1 to n (1 Task duplicated n times into n Lists).

Hi
Josh Ankenmann
THIS! This is essential for automating systems in our business, and is the only way we would be able to meaningfully make use of templates.
Is there any update on the timeline for this?
Daniel Schlichter
Still excited for a serious upgrade to how templates are handled within clickup. It's a heck of a hassle to maintain and update templates.

Yes!
This is extremely manual and labor intensive for those of us who heavily use automation and need to make updates based on business needs, etc. In increases unnecessary layers of error and risk each time a template is made.
This is an enhancement who comes sooner rather than later.
