Make it easier to edit templates without needing to apply the template first (e.g. in Template Center)

I shouldn't have to create a task, apply a template, edit the task, then save the template.
I should be able to edit the template directly in the template centre, then close the template centre when finished.

Hey everyone! Thank you for sharing your ideas! In order to help with prioritization, I'm going to keep this request focused on making it easier to edit templates without applying the template first.
I'm using the below separate posts for each of the other main ideas in this feature request:
- Preview a template before applying it: https://feedback.clickup.com/feature-requests/p/preview-a-template-before-applying-it
- See where templates are being referenced (e.g. automations, task templates): https://feedback.clickup.com/feature-requests/p/see-where-templates-are-being-referenced-eg-automations-task-templates
- Ability to organize templates: https://feedback.clickup.com/feature-requests/p/ability-to-organize-my-templates-in-template-center-or-a-template-hub
If you'd like to add a vote and share your feedback on the other requests, this will help our team prioritize your different ideas.
Thank you!

View Template details without having to apply to a task

Asana does a much better job at templates. I can click into my template and edit it - Add subtasks, adjust dates settings, etc. without having to apply the template to a task and edit it and then override the template with the updated changes. Templates are one of the least user friendly features in clickup.

I second this! My templates have many sub-tasks with other team members assigned. Whenever I create a new task in order to update make a template update, everyone gets a slew of emails. I'd like to be able to update my templates without creating a new task in order to avoid this.

Intuitive selection

When updating a template, provide the template you've just edited as an intuitive option or even better just have "Update this template" So i only have to click one button.

I 100% agree with having a template centre. I cannot tell you, as a new user, how long I have wasted trying to work out why my templates won't edit, especially as the AI is telling me they can, until I get to the help bot who clearly says I can't...

I feel so seen to find this request and so much support for it. We're starting to utilize the templates across all our channels and now we're noticing just how painstaking it is each time one of the templates needs to be updated.

SUGGESTION: Please add "Template Center" as an easy-to-find tab/button within the Home sidebar. I would like to view, edit and update ALL my templates from one location without having to go in and find where each live.

Elise Azara: Thank you for your suggestion! A centralized "Template Center" is a great idea, and we’ve been considering a similar Templates Hub concept. While we haven’t officially started scoping or design yet—since we’re currently focused on improving template quality and reliability—please stay tuned for updates. We’d love your feedback when we get there!

Lily Chan: I completely agree with Elise Azara's suggestion above. I’ve said so many times how helpful it would be to have a “Template Center” button that I could pin or easily access from the main navigation. Right now, I often find myself clicking around just to get to the Template Center, and once I’m there, it defaults to a lower-level view, so I have to manually switch to the top-level space just to see all available templates. It ends up being more steps than it should be for something we use so often. A more direct path would make a big difference!

Agreed 100% - Currently we have to have a separate Space in Clickup for all of our Templates so that we can make adjustments and iterate on them in a logical way. However, currently there isn't anyway of easily copying a task using the "/" function so we have to either use the useless "template center" or manually copy tasks individually to each list we need it in, which is very tedious when you have 100's of lists. It either needs to be an easier way of copying/duplicating tasks in bulk or to a specific location using the "/" command or the Template Center needs to be "Live" so that when you view a Template you can see its current state and make adjustments in there

Improve Template center

Improve templates to be modified, created, shared, and exported directly from the template center.
Even created by just uploading a document. For example, create a checklist from a spreadsheet import.
That way, I can export my team's checklists and keep them as documentation.
Also, add a link to share a template similar to task links or ClickUp documents.

Template Centre - Should be able to edit templates here
Gloria Sanchez
Right now, you cannot edit any template on the Templates Centre. You can only access them to use it, but this is where you should be able to edit everything about the templates. Not just view it. PLEASE!
