Make it easier to create and edit templates without needing to apply the template first (e.g. Template Editor launched from Template Center)

I shouldn't have to create a task, apply a template, edit the task, then save the template.
I should be able to edit the template directly in the template centre, then close the template centre when finished.

Hey everyone! Thank you for sharing your ideas! In order to help with prioritization, I'm going to keep this request focused on making it easier to edit templates without applying the template first.
I'm using the below separate posts for each of the other main ideas in this feature request:
- Preview a template before applying it: https://feedback.clickup.com/feature-requests/p/preview-a-template-before-applying-it
- See where templates are being referenced (e.g. automations, task templates): https://feedback.clickup.com/feature-requests/p/see-where-templates-are-being-referenced-eg-automations-task-templates
- Ability to organize templates: https://feedback.clickup.com/feature-requests/p/ability-to-organize-my-templates-in-template-center-or-a-template-hub
If you'd like to add a vote and share your feedback on the other requests, this will help our team prioritize your different ideas.
Thank you!

Template UI to Remap by Days/Month

Daetan Huck
User Story: As a user on the Template Center, Edit Template page, I want to see a list of the Tasks in the template and their relative due dates to the parent. Then, I want to have a field to edit the relative number of days or months from the parent task.
Lily Chan
Daetan Huck Thank you for your feedback! I'm going to merge this into an existing feature request for enabling direct editing of templates. Your use case for being able to more easily edit due dates is helpful.
Can you also please vote on this feature request for live previews of templates? https://feedback.clickup.com/feature-requests/p/preview-a-template-before-applying-it

Allow Direct Editing of Task Templates + Relative Due Dates
Lisa Marchildon
Currently, updating a task template in ClickUp requires creating a task from the template, making edits and then re-saving it as a new template. Additionally, subtasks in templates cannot easily be scheduled relative to the parent task’s due date or a larger project start and end date (e.g. “5 days before the main task deadline”).
Allowing users to open and edit task templates directly without spinning up a task first and enabling tasks/subtasks to be scheduled relative to the parent task due date or a larger project start and end date (e.g. -7 days, -3 days, same day, etc.), would encourage teams to keep templates updated and improve automation for repeatable processes like campaigns, launches, etc.

I have to have a blank space open to build templates and have to update those to update any templates. Would love to just have a template building in settings

Need ability to edit tasks in template folder
C
Collin Leishman
As a user, I need the ability to directly edit tasks within a saved template folder so that my onboarding workflow stays up to date as my process evolves.
Current behavior: Template tasks are frozen at the time of saving. To update them, you must edit a live folder and re-save the entire template, which either corrupts active client work or requires maintaining a throwaway "master" folder.
Desired behavior: From the Template Center, I can open a template and add, remove, or edit tasks directly — without touching any live folders.
Example: I have a "New Client Onboarding" template with 11 tasks. Six months in, I decide every new client needs a Slack channel created and a kickoff call scheduled. I should be able to open the template, add those two tasks, and save — so the next time I use the template, those tasks are included automatically. Existing client folders are unaffected.
Why it matters: Agencies and service businesses iterate on their processes constantly. Right now the workaround is maintaining a dummy folder purely for template management, which is confusing, clutters the workspace, and is easy to accidentally work out of.

Collin Leishman Thank you for your feedback. I'm going to merge your request into our larger feature request to be able to direct edit templates.

Lily Chan Please consider enabling template modification as a permission that can be controlled by role. Currently, any user with access to a space or list can modify a template, and there is no history or log for tracking and approving changes. For projects or complex process workflows, templates should be protected—either with a document/view‑protection‑like feature or through role‑based permissions.
Thank you!

Karina Leticia Garcia Montecinos For more granular permissions for templates, can you please also vote on this feature request? https://feedback.clickup.com/feature-requests/p/granular-permissions-in-templates-who-can-create-edit-delete-templates-globally
Our current thoughts are that we'll have to tackle granular permissions hand-in-hand with making editing templates easier.
