Layouts by task type
Ivan Villa
Problem:
We manage different types of work within ClickUp, and how sections are organized in ClickUp Tasks do not always work across each type. In some tasks, for example I want subtasks and fields front and center, while in others, I need to bring relationships front and center.
Ask:
- Give the ability to have a different task layout for each task type.
- This would allow each type to have a layout that is better organized for that type of work.

I completely agree this is one step closer from being able to develop engaging and customized apps for clients.

Ivan Villa Thank you for directing me to this thread. Regarding the Relationships side of things, that's been the biggest ask from our team and hurdle in the new 3.0 layout is that Relationships are forced to the multi-level view on the right of the task pane, vs. in 2.0 when they could be viewed and clicked in-line with custom fields and such. So just reiterating in this thread that not only would it be a HUGE help to be able to remove Relationships from the Activity/comments area, but also would be so awesome if the current Subtasks sidebar that comes out the left side could be customized to include whatever types of things we need.
Our organization does not use Subtasks at all, so having the entire left pop-out panel be strictly for subtasks is unfortunately just unused space for us. If we could (by switching default task type even) have that left pop-out panel instead be Relationships, or even move Comments over there, or custom fields, etc. That would be a huge win. Thanks!

This would truly be helpful. We run a lot of account plans as lists (one list per account) and those lists carry a number of things like deals, problems, onboarding tasks, SaaS products, Services, Events, etc. If we could open the tasks and have relevant field showing based on the task type that would unbelievably convenient. Efficiency and team clarity would 10X. Thanks!

Yes totally agree, I moved over from Coda about a year ago and you can completely customize the “task” view. Everything was like a widget and you can drag and drop every field where ever you wanted to, save layouts/templates even resize the ‘widget card’, very similar to how dashboards are but under the task view it was awesome but not as awesome as Clickup.

There are multiple requests revolving around this same ask ie: customize the task layout completely, or at least by task type. The vote count is probably much higher. This would also take a lot of pressure off CU with requests to accommodate an infinite number of workflows. +1

Applying layout templates by rule would overcome the biggest hurdle I encounter to wider adoption, and reduce the hunt for alternatives.
Clickup could be incredibly useful for collaboration across all kinds of workers; if it weren't so intimidating to so many who aren't 'systems native' knowledge workers. So many see it and say 'I don't get it', and have more familiar ways of doing things that are much less confusing to them. It's great to have so many ways to do things, but most of them only apply to certain users in certain situations. Having to remember what in a super busy screen is actually relevant is a poor user experience.
e.g.:
(Users on X team have Layout A by default vs. Y team have layout C.
override w. Layout B for all Users when in List 'QA Log'.)
Making the task layout function more like 'Forms' setup where you can rearrange the pieces, and display conditionally, would allow clickup power users and admins to really unlock the potential to replace other less integrative tools with a time-saving user experience, instead of a scary one.

I would prefer complete customization of the Task View, saved per task type, able to be overridden per list.

100% agreed.
Making the task view fully modular and customizable would be the ultimate solution to let us having space-efficient layout that fits our workflows.

I love that there are different task types now, but they don't do a whole lot other than allow you to filter. When we have multiple levels of subtasks, usually the highest task level is not really a task, it's just a grouping to put other tasks under. It would be great if we could change those into different tasks types which would remove fields like assignee, due date, etc. We'd want them as columns so they show for the subtasks below, but it would be great if they could just be removed for certain tasks types so they are gone completely rather than leaving them blank.
