Include subtasks in Filter / Filter subtasks when grouped
Matt Cooling
Request the add the ability to filter subtasks when they are grouped under parents
Use case
- Main tasks in a list are used to manage key project tasks, subtasks used to manage actions
- Actions sometimes have a status of 'On Hold'
- Requirement is to view tasks and actions (subtasks) that are active (ie. not 'On Hold'), with the actions under the tasks they belong to

This is a really simple fix. - We should just get a toggle button to choose whether or not filters (and search) affects subtasks or not.
Sometimes I do want filters to affect subtasks and sometimes I don't. I.e., sometimes I want to see ALL subtasks, and sometimes I want ones that don't match the filter, filtered out. So we just need a toggle option.
I don't want to have to view subtasks separately to get this to happen because then the list view becomes really messy. I want to keep things grouped under the parent. But by doing that, all subtasks are shown at all times, even if there's a filter that should filter them out.
The fact that we can't have filters filter out subtasks right now is a
big
gap, and this toggle would be such an easy fix.Hemant Kumar Any chance of this being addressed?

This would be very helpful. A couple use cases:
- View open tasks. If the parent task is open but certain subtasks are closed, the closed subtasks should not appear if filtering for open tasks.
- Enable parent tasks to reflect a different concept from subtasks. Often we use parent tasks to represent a project, partner, contract, opportunity, or some other entity and subtasks to actually represent work associated with that entity. In these instances viewing subtasks separately completely divorces them from context and makes no sense. We should be able to filter on fields relevant to subtasks while preserving their hierarchy under parents for which those same fields may not be relevant or used.
Clickup, there are a bunch of related requests, collectively with lots of votes. Can these please be merged to reflect the true level of interest?

I vote for it! It is really useful when you have big teams with many nested tasks.

Here's an example - need to be able to view all tasks excluding those in Hold status
