Right now, if a task has both a start and a due date, the tasks occupies the entire day on the gantt chart. If only a start date: then only the first half of the day - if only a due date, then only the second half of the day.

These subtleties are lost when you zoom out to a month or year view.

It seems to me it should be more obvious if there is a start date, a due date, or both dates.

Perhaps a start date could be represented by a "-", a due date by a "|" and both dates on the same day by a "+" (a combination of the "-" and "|")?

This would help me make much more sense of my gantt charts.
