Group by Number (& Formula) Custom Fields

[from support] User would like to be able to group their List view by a number custom field.
Grouping for some Formula fields is now supported, but not for those that output numbers.

This is much needed, just something like being able to group on the integer output of WEEKNUM(field("Due date")) is essential.

actually, that is a very narrow sighted view. Please make it so that we can group by ANY custom field. I just tried to group not by status but Week Number that I created for time tracking purposes and bumped into the same problem as you Michael. Why dont they simply add grouping by any custom field we add?

Yes please. Specifically, I'm using column calculations to add up numbers from a task's subtasks. It works, but I need to "separate" the tasks so the calculation doesn't run on all tasks together. Essentially I need to "group" the tasks into groups of 1 each.
With the current system, I can only do this by assigning each group a different: checkbox (only 2 groups), rating/priority (only 5 groups), due date (not feasible), tag/status/custom field drop down (would have to create so many choices, all of which would only be used once).
Better option would be have "group by any custom field" and give each task a custom number. Or best option, have a view to show each task as a "group of one". Then my column calculations would work properly.
