Global New Task Hotkey
in progress
David Liprini
I'm slowly moving across from ToDoist, but they have a handful of things that mean I can't abandon them just yet. The main one for me is ClickUp's lack of a globally binding "Add New Task" key.
For clarity, I want to be able to add a ClickUp task no matter what app I'm using on my Mac/PC using one global shortcut.
I use ⌘-Shift A on ClickUp. See screenshot for reference.

Any ideas for the default hotkey?

Jing Xuan
@Zeb: Hi Zeb, maybe Shift + C to open Clickup from anywhere? Or just Shift + C + U(or T?) to create new task like the original post? :)
Bas Wolting
@Zeb: in Todoist I believe it’s something like CMD + OPT + T for Task creation. The main thing of Todoist, which would be great if ClickUp could create it, is task quick add (like in the image):
ClickUp’s task with “/“ is good, but this would be great.

@Zeb: Most programs allow you to customize it (Omnifocus, Things, etc.). But if you had to pick one I would vote for OPT+Spacebar. Only two keys. Easy to find.

Hey @Brett Cochran, @Bas Wolting & @Jing Xuan! Thank you for all your suggestions 🙂
We're weighing in all options making sure it's easy to learn while keeping in mind it doesn't match with existing ClickUp or PC hotkeys.
Brett Cochran
@Waleed Elaghil: Thanks. Will it be a hot key for while in Chrome or a real global one assuming you have the app installed (on OSX in my case)
Waleed Elaghil
Hey @Brett Cochran! This will be global 🙂

Temp workaround I'm using. If you use Alfred Powerpack, you can use this simple workflow the attached workflow.
It will open the ClickUp desktop app and type
r
.With a little more effort you could just use OSX Automator.

John Ostrowski
@Zeb anything on this feature? Really looking forward to this one
Waleed Elaghil
Hey @John Ostrowski! We're working in revamping our Chrome extension later this year to help easily create tasks faster and from anywhere 🙂
David Liprini
@Waleed Elaghil: is a hotkey only planned for the Chrome extension, or will it also work on the desktop versions? Because that is where it's at for me ;)
Waleed Elaghil
Hey @David Liprini! You can already use "T" hotkey in desktop to quickly create a task. Here for more hotkeys and shortcuts to navigate ClickUp https://clickup.com/features/hotkeys-shortcuts
David Liprini
Hi @Waleed Elaghil :) I'm aware of the T shortcut within the app, but that's not what I mean by a global hotkey.
I'm referring to the ability to create a ClickUp task at any time while
not being in the app
, regardless of what I'm doing. As per my original screenshot, I could create ToDoist tasks while working in another app — say, reading an email and realising I have to research X before responding — without having to ALT-TAB into the app to do so.Waleed Elaghil
Hey @David Liprini! This is not planned to be within our initial release of the new Chrome extension, but I've surfaced this to the team to have it for our follow-up releases 🙂

This will rise CU to another level of productivity :)

This is so important feature, which I am used to in OmniFocus

@Zeb I am encouraged to see that there is a plan for this feature to roll out by the end of the year. However, is there a way to be notified when this feature becomes a reality?

Perfect use-case for this: sending just a few words to ClickUp while on a zoom call, that can be edited and and assigned properly after the call. great way to non-intrusively send things to CU while not interrupting a call or note-taking or anything. Fire and forget!

This is the only feature keeping me from completely switching over from Todoist. It would be a huge time-saver.

OMG having this would be AMAZING!

I'm really surprised this still isn't available. It's one of the most essential, most time-saving and efficiency-boosting features that any task manager could have. Ideas or things come up that you need to capture at any time and while you're in any program. Reducing the clicks/time to get that thought captured to ClickUp ASAP should really be a top priority.
@Zeb , any update on when this will be available?
Everyone else - anyone know how this can be worked around using macro/automation/autohotkey-type programs on Windows? I'm just now getting into these and think it might be possible. Checking out PhraseExpress and FastKeys and I'll see if I can find out how to make this work.
