Hey, Everyone! 👋
Thanks for your feedback and support on this request. We recognize how important it is for our customers to have the ability to perform full backups and safeguard their data, and we’re committed to delivering a solution that meets your needs.
What’s Next:
We’re currently planning and scoping out an optimal export structure so that we can ensure it works well with being able to re-import it back to bulk update data - part of our #1 Imports Feature Request - https://feedback.clickup.com/feature-requests/p/ability-to-export-a-list-and-then-re-upload-into-that-same-list-with-updated-dat
We're looking at things holistically so that we can tackle multiple feature requests.
We’ll share updates here as things progress.

it would be very useful to have a backup function and the ability to migrate data. I think it is a need for all users and I understand from the comments I read that this type of lack is also the engine that drives many users to change the system. Implement it as soon as possible

@Lily Chan Since Clickup is project management software, why can't we get more regular and detailed project timeline updates?
6 years is a long time, especially when it comes to missing critical functions such as full backup/export and subfolders. (rather than nice-to-have features)
❓Why not provide:
- 1) Project updates on a set regular cadence that includes expected delivery timelines on these critical functions?
- 2) At least some transparency on project backlog priorities so we know what you are referring to as "related improvements, dependencies"
-
🔑 We can only assume that ClickUp is forced to prioritize listening to and serving the VC money and deliver AI features no user asked for instead of the critical functions customers have repeatedly and clearly told ClickUp they need from this product. Delaying delivery of critical functions such as full backup/export and subfolders will eventually result in significant churn from mass exodus to a new player due to broken trust and a lack of caring about what customers need.
❗️Feels like ClickUp is in danger of becoming an embarrassing cautionary tale as a future case study like Kodak/Nokia, who also failed to pay attention to their loyal customers and adapt to deliver what we're telling you we need.
✅ Please pass on our frustration and encourage the decision makers to deliver what we need, rather than nice-to-have AI features that only a few or no customers asked for.

Greg Atkins: Thank you so much for your honest feedback and for sharing your thoughts so openly. I completely get where you’re coming from—waiting on critical features like full backup/export and subfolders can be really frustrating, and you deserve more regular updates.
A few things I want to highlight:
- We share a public roadmap that’s kept up-to-date with our latest priorities and progress: https://doc.clickup-stg.com/p/ad-3021/click-up-roadmap/ad-3021/click-up-roadmap. This is the best place to see what’s coming up and what we’re working on across the board.
- We also recognize that more consistent, detailed updates are needed—especially for the top requests. For our top 50 feature requests (across all product areas), you’ll start seeing product managers posting and pinning regular updates in the comments. We want to make it much easier for you to track progress and know where things stand.
- On subfolders specifically: this is actively being worked on! It’s a huge, company-wide effort to make sure subfolders work seamlessly and with quality across the entire app. Caroline and Vinny will be keeping the Subfolders Canny request up to date with the latest news, so keep an eye there for more details soon.
I really appreciate you holding us accountable and pushing for more transparency. We’re committed to making sure you see real progress on the features that matter most.
Thanks again for being so engaged with ClickUp!

I just got an email from ClickUp about an update here, which reminded me that y'all exist. See, we migrated off of your platform while waiting for this feature to happen.
I'm not trying to sound petty, I just wanted to point out that delaying features the user base overwhelmingly agrees is critical can leads to loss of business, in the hopes that it might help prioritize the feature for those still using the product.
Lily Chan
Alex Fornuto: Thank you for taking the time to share your experience, even after moving off ClickUp.
We know that delays on critical features can have a real impact, and your story is a clear reminder of why it’s so important for us to prioritize what matters most to our users. If you ever decide to give ClickUp another try, or if you’d like to keep an eye on our progress, we’re working hard to improve both our communication and our delivery on top-requested features.
Thank you again for your candor, and I hope we’ll have the chance to welcome you back in the future.

Yes, it would be wonderful to be able to store/restore a full backup (including attachments) of a list (or even a full space) with one click.
Excel format could be a plus but not a must. The main point is to be able to have a separate and independent backup location.

I upvoted a request for a total backup in 2018. It's seven years later and it just made it to "someday" Please, please, please escalate this to Building Now. We don't have a reliable disaster recovery without it.

I guess it would be a game changing feature.
The goal is to allow to fully export AND/OR import of a full job (list or space) with its own attachments to/from a backup server.
One of the main concerns refraining my company to move on Clickup is the fear of loosing data in case of problems.
Having a full backup on a dedicated or local server would be great.

Lily Chan Great to see! Any news on what form this might take?
Some things:-
1. Really needs to contain EVERYTHING.
Right now, the CSV does not contain things like attachments, images, etc. So it's only backing up words and custom fields.
That way the backup is actually a complete one.
This is also particularly an issue if there is an accidental deletion, or corrupt data (which I have had with ClickUp), where I need to be able to go back to an old version of something.
2. Also needs to be human-readable, to be able to open anywhere.
It makes it hard to move everything
to
ClickUp if you don't KNOW
you could take it off ClickUp if you ever needed to. What if ClickUp ever died one day (obviously don't want it to!)? I need to KNOW
I can move to another platform if I need to. It just means you know your data is safe in the event of a catastrophe.Or simply being able to create a backup to access at any time. There are many times ClickUp is not accessible (e.g., offline, airplanes, train rides, unreliable signal, ClickUp offline), where I need to still work on something or access something, even if I have to do a manual sync later. If I could access my own backup or sync to something like Obsidian, that would allow me to do that.
Also times where something goes wrong with data. I have had Tasks deleted out of nowhere, images deleted out of nowhere that are now shown as broken links, attachments no longer working because of a ClickUp problem, etc. I need to be able to have a backup of them if these things happen.
