Extend the Option limit for custom fields: Labels/Dropdowns

We hit the 500-option limit wall for the Label/Dropdown custom field. For a company who gets hundreds of clients over time, this won't do.
We want to organize/categorize our data based on either Label/Dropdown custom fields like "Clients/Companies" as these prevent naming inconsistencies when the Text custom field is used, and provide search capability for existing names that we have catered to.

This one is REALLY important to us as well. We need the limit to be set at 2,000 at least.
Probably you could add more based on the plan. ie:
- 500 for free forever & unlimited
- 2,000 for business (& current Business Plus)
- 5,000 for enterprise

For us it means we can not add new clients to CU because we use dropdown menu as a field to add a client's company. Now there is no good workaround for this known to me. Do you have any suggestion how to solve it? Use label for another custom field used for clients is nonsense. We don't want to have 2 columns for same type of values. Using plain text is an option but it has disadvantage when you input the same client you can't search for the same value and therefore you can have inconsistency within same clients. Therefore you have to spend extra time finding the "correct" client name (nike vs nike company vs nike ltd, etc.)
Now I'm reading Crystal Cruz's comment - we have completely the same issue and reasons.
