Expanded Long Text Fields
complete
Rob McLean
Can you please add back the expanded text fields?
We don't want to have to click into long text fields to view content. Only being able to see 2 rows of text isn't great. Thanks

Thank you Caroline Ginty: Quick q, it mentions below that this is being worked on for list view. Do you know when this is coming?
Currently a long text field in list view only shows the full text when Word Wrap (under the 'Show' menu is applied (but this makes it harder to read, especially for bullet points). Like the task view now has, it would be great to have the option to show the full text without the word wrap applied.

Tom Jackson: It went live last week, so you should be able to resize columns and see more of your long text fields. It won't show the full text if it's longer than 3 lines, and we're continuing to think through ways to optimize this, but should be a big improvement over the previous behavior!

Thanks Caroline Ginty. Just letting you know I don't see any change to how long text fields behave in the list view. Attached is an example of how text is truncated when in list view. Doesn't seem to show more than before.

Tom Jackson: We will now show up to 3 lines. Previously, only 1 line was displayed in list view regardless of column width.

Caroline Ginty: Thanks though its shown two lines for the last year or so? so there is no visible change?

Just confirming I can see the changes so that 3 lines of text are visible in the list view now that I have been moved to ClickUp 3.0 (I didn't realise from the post above that it was only in 3.0 😀).
It would still be great to have the option to show the full long text field in list view 😀

Working on this for list view, and it is solved for Task view in 3.0!

There is also the possibility to do so in other area of the system so it should not be too complicated to replicate it on the table view; to be fair should be an option available when choosing the multi line text field which could be set off by default and then up to the user to enable it or not when choosing that field

This is one of the most complained about issues I have with my team and ClickUp. When they are looking at the requirements for the task, they miss the deliverables if it is too long. Adding to the description is an option but then it just repeats the information and it's confusing. Please please please prioritise this!

Editing Long Text within the details window after you click on a task is super frustrating. If I build the long text custom field into a view, the editing window is great (expands and displays all text). If I click on the long text within the task detail panel, it collapses to only 3 lines. This is the preferred area to edit the multiple custom long text fields that we have for our tasks. Even if you can't expand it like it is in view, can you at least get it to fit the height of the text in the field when editing, or allow more than 3 rows of text! Anything is better than the way it functions now.

Merged in a post:
Long text field in the task view is expanded only when not editing. This should work like it does in list view or just expand with the rows of text as added.

In the list views, the Long text field expands when editing. In the task view the long text field expands to hold the long text but when editing it gets really short and requires scrolling which is very frustrating when you only have 2-3 rows available out of 10+. Please make it expand with the rows of text to make editing more intuitive. Many people like to read what they have typed without having to click out then back in and scroll to find what you want to edit.

Hey Rob McLean! Thank you for your feedback. The "Text" Custom Field already have the expanded field. Does this solve your problem?
