Big Picture: In collaborative projects, especially those involving third-party vendors, critical email correspondence often happens outside of ClickUp. Currently, only emails initiated from within a ClickUp task are visible in the task’s comment thread. This limits transparency and collaboration, as important context and updates remain siloed in individual inboxes, inaccessible to other project stakeholders in ClickUp.
Problem:
• Multiple parties may be involved in a ClickUp project, but each has their own external email communications with vendors or partners.
• These external email threads often contain key information or constraints relevant to the project.
• Other ClickUp users assigned to or observing the project cannot see these emails, leading to gaps in context and communication.
• The only way to link emails to a task is to start a new thread from within ClickUp, which isn’t always practical or possible after the fact.
Proposed Solution:
• Allow users to retroactively link existing email threads from their inboxes to specific ClickUp tasks.
• Once linked, all past and future correspondence in that email thread would automatically appear in the task’s comment section, ensuring full visibility for all relevant parties.
• This would enable seamless collaboration, keep everyone informed, and eliminate information silos—regardless of where the original email conversation started.
• Ideally, this feature could be part of the broader vision for ClickUp’s next-generation email integration, allowing emails to be linked to tasks at any point, not just when initiated from ClickUp.
Impact: This enhancement would be critical for teams working with external vendors or partners, ensuring that all project-related communication—regardless of where it originates—is accessible and transparent within ClickUp.
