I imagine this is a controversial request, but I do hope it gets attention as long as comments are the only reasonable option to provide structured status updates on a project. I've considered creating a separate list just for project events (meetings, status updates, etc.), but then I would lose the "Last Comment" field, and rollup fields aren't helpful.

It would be helpful to be able to change the time or date stamp of a comment or change. For example, if I neglect to update the status of an account to Live on the day it goes live, the status change in comments shows the wrong date. Being able to edit the date would thus be helpful.

I've screenshotted what I'm referring to. I want to edit the date of a comment, and it seems that I cannot. (I'm posting a comment from a convo last Friday and want the dates to reflect reality)

Ability to edit comment date/time

Many times we need to add comments from a previous date or edit a comment date/time to reflect when an action really occurred (either because of a delay in entering the comment or when re-building history on tasks that rely heavily on the chronology of events). It would essentially allow for 'inserting' missing comments after the fact while maintaining chronological integrity (which would be very helping in reporting).
Perhaps an indicator that the date/time has been manually edited would address any concerns that this function was being abused (or make it a privileged function).

Interesting for putting comments of the past to an activity

We should know the time (minute / hour / date) which comments were posted and edited.
