Dynamic/Relative Dates for Automations (ex: 7 days before due date)
in progress
Joey
Examples:
- "7 days before the start date..."
- "Each Monday..."
- When ANY date changes to ANY date
- Use Date custom fields as automation triggers
- Be able to use Automations to change items such as Due Dates using relative dates, I.E. "Next Monday"
- "When a task becomes overdue I can then set it to 'Done'"
- Etc.

Hey everyone!
- The "Current Date is" trigger is officially live (See screenshot)! I wanted to post here before we include it in our upcoming release notes so that you get a sneak peek. If you have any concerns or run into any blocking issues, please reach out!
- Regarding the "On a Scheduler" trigger, we really appreciate all the feedback from the survey! We may have follow up questions on it soon as this is a top priority for us.
Stay tuned for more 🙏

Would suggest to include also "Done Date", "Closed Date", "Updated Date" and "Created Date" on top of "Start Date" and "Due Date"

Hey. any way to test this? It's crucial for us. >>>Quick update: We're hoping to wrap this trigger up soon (will begin testing internally in a few weeks) and get it shipped out shortly after! When we're ready to roll this out, I'll message here to see who wants to try it out.

Oh I thought it was already a thing! have been using what I thought was dynamic date triggers for weeks now lol. Game changer for our business

Zach - ClickUp awesome! Tha ka for the update.

Zach - ClickUp thanks for the Update. Looking forward for this trigger

Zach - ClickUp Do you have an update on when we can expect to use dynamic/relative dates for the OUTPUT of the automation?
You seem to be focusing only on the INPUT, the trigger criteria. However we need the ability to automate the CREATION of date values. IMO this is the more important use case.
For example: I want to automate the Due Dates for multiple subtasks RELATIVE to the Parent task Due Date (or a custom field like "Launch Date" or "Approval Date" etc). Subtasks are pre-reqs to the parent task, so we need to set their due dates before the parent due date. The subtasks need to have a relative formula like "Subtask.DueDate = ParentTask.DueDate -3" or "X days before Due Date".
This would save an enormous amount of manual effort for PMs with even moderate project complexity. This is not an edge case, it's foundational day-to-day project management. Please consider this critical use case as you develop this feature.

Zach - ClickUp I'm still missing this in the Then section. I would like there to be three variables: the start date, today and the due date.
Consider a task that has fixed periods for each status.
Examples:
- When task is created, then set start date to ChooseDate, and due date to DueDate+14, i.e. use a variable just after it was defined.
(I can now only choose a set date in the Automation settings, but I would ideally like to be asked what date to set and that the due date is set for a fixed amount of time after that.)
- When status updates, then set start date to Today, and due date to DueDate+14, i.e. use the previously defined value for a variable to increase it step by step.
(I can now only use TriggerDate as the variable)

Zach - ClickUp is there going to be an option where we can say when due date arrives and task is not yet started, move the due date by X number of days where X is a variable that is different for each task?

James Guitard Is your use case addressed by the ClickApp to remap subtasks? https://help.clickup.com/hc/en-us/articles/6304545702423-Remap-Subtask-Due-Dates
James Guitard
Naomi Peters No. Remapping is useful when planned dates change, but not during initial creation of task+subtasks.
We use a checkbox field to automate subtask creation. Based on the task type, we can generate multiple subtasks and set for each: assignees, tags, custom fields, etc. However, Dates (relative to parent task dates) are not able to be set in automation.

Similar to Kate Huber - I look at the "Date Updated" to see if a task has gone stale. If the task hasn't been touched in two weeks, I want to send a notice to the assignee to take action on it. I honestly hope that you will open this feature up to support any date field, including the custom ones. To maximize the flexibility of ClickUp's potential, users would want to trigger off any date, not just the start and due dates.

Could "Updated date" be added too? This would then allow us to set an automation that if "Current Date" is X hours after the "Updated date" then we could trigger a status update to SLA BREACH for anything that requires frequent updates for SLA purposes.

I have just discovered this thread! I'd love automations to be able to replace recurring tasks (as I find that feature flawed for my purposes).
What is not currently possible through automations is "on x date of month, change status to 'to do, and change due date to x date of month". For example, on the 15th of each month, I want tasks to change from complete to to-do, and update the due date to the 28th of the month.
Recurring tasks are unsuitable as even when set 'on schedule' the recurring feature triggers when the task is completed. I don't want the trigger to fire when a task is completed.

For content creation I am using due dates and a publish date custom field. I want to use an automation to automatically set or change the due date to X days prior to the publish date
Natalie Williams
Antonia Pahlke yes! I need this too
