Duration

When you remove the start date or end date of a task, it also removes the duration that has been set. It would be helpful if this could be locked or not changed when a start date is removed.

Schedule tasks by duration instead of fixed dates, letting start and due dates follow automatically.
This is live in ClickUp now.
Tell us what you would want from it — what is missing, what is awkward, what you would use first.

Zeb What would also be useful would be to add an "add duration" field into the "create a subtask" action step in automations. This would allow us to create more dynamic timelines following this logic:
- The automation sets duration
- The automation sets start date at the same time
- ClickUp scheduling logic would kick in and automatically calculate due date and skip non-working days

Agrered, the duration should be a standalone parameter, seperate from start/due date

+1 here - this is a huge painpoint for us. Durations are a game changer, but them being directly tied to Start/Due Dates should be reconsidered.

I completely agree with this. We use 'Duration' extensively in our templates, and when these templates are applied to active lists, updating either the Start Date or Due Date causes the Duration to be removed. If users are not attentive, they may lose track of the task's Duration. We would prefer this field to remain static instead of having the Duration removed when Start Date or Due Date changes occur. I recall our team providing this feedback to the ClickUp team last year during the Beta testing of 'Duration,' but we have not received any follow-up on this matter.
